This one is getting some good reviews. Anyone picking it up?

Comes free with my new video card. So... yes?

Planning to. Maybe not day one since I want to finish some other games first.

Based on reactions around town, it sounds like the PC release could use a patch or two. Some surprising performance hits here and there that need to be hammered out.

Regardless, sounds like a game tailor-made to my taste. Looking forward to it.

I spent a lot of time in FC2 and did not have high hopes for FC3. But I really like what I'm hearing from people that have played it.

I loved Far Cry and played Far Cry 2 a few times. I haven't purchased a game in about 2 years and plan to get Far Cry 3.

The pre-order is available at Gamefly for $40 with code NOV20OFF. I'm tempted but I prefer to have all my games on Steam.

Yeah I got that email.... so tempted to do it for $20 off though. Not sure if I feel up to paying $20 extra just to have it on Steam...

I think the Steam price is $10 more right now. I'll probably wait until Steam has it on sale.

All the Steam version does is launch the Ubisoft launcher. That's it. It's not Steamworks so there's not really any advantage to having it through Steam.

Steam is the same price, was looking at the Deluxe (Still getting the deluxe for the extra stuff since a lot is singleplayer content as well)

It's a matter of consolidation, I like having everything on one platform.

Yeah, this is why I like to keep everything on Steam.

You're going to quote that but NOT have the screenshot?

What does all yall think of Far Crizzle 3?

So far, nice game. There are some thing I like, some things I don't. Overall a worthy purchase if you like this type of game. I would believe that if you didn't like FC2 you wouldn't like FC3 still even with some of the things that have been changed.

Just got my new PC up and running a few days ago, so I'm a bit overwhelmed with the number of games I'm catching up on. Far Cry 3 is close to the top of that list. I've only put in about a half hour, though, just to check it out. I'll be playing the hell out of it shortly.

For right now, I'm finally getting a long-overdue chance to play Crysis. Yes, the first one. At least since I waited so long, I get to play it on Ultra settings at a high framerate. Far Cry 3 is up next.

Tried it and it's nice looking but I have not cared for any in the series so did not expect to like this one either and my expectation was right on, don't like it. wink.gif

The animals and hunting add an interesting element to the game. I killed a pig and the shot attracted two pirates. I skinned the pig and backed away from the pirates. As the pirates were searching for me they were attacked by a couple of Komodo Dragons. One of the dragons and one of the pirates was killed. As the remaining pirate finished off the other dragon I ambushed him.

Then I noticed a goat which I need for crafting. As I was stalking him, another dragon showed up and started chasing the goat.

Lots of fun.

^^^ It's like Skyrim but with guns and in the tropics. wink.gif

I thought I might pick this up for the PC if it's super action. I bought a new pc back in the summer but have only played Diablo 3(good) and Rage(bad) so far. Need something new for the PC. I really enjoyed the first Farcry, never played the second one.
If the 3rd is laid back gameplay similar to Skyrim I might instead get it for the xbox 360 and rocker recline my way through.
I played hundred of hours with skyrim on the 360 and don't remember very many interations with wildlife beyond simply killing them off. Wonder when the game will hit 30 bucks on Steam.

Don't worry. My comparison to Skyrim has more to do with the similar "emergent" moments and mission structure.

Otherwise, it's about as action-filled as a GTA game. And the difficulty tuning is much better than Skyrim, too. At least from the few hours I've played so far. But I'm guessing that will remain true because there's no level-scaling enemies. Skyrim became a breeze after about 20 hours, even on the highest difficulty setting.

Anyone who's playing Far Cry 3 on hard (and gotten further than I have) care to comment?

Also, if you have a choice between 360 and PC, I'd check out Digital Foundry's comparison before you decide. The framerate supposedly gets pretty ugly on console (sub-20fps in places).

Looks like the pc wins. I'm suprised the Xbox looked pretty darn close just janky frame rate.
I'm downloading it on steam. Should have it to play for the weekend. Turtle headphones plenty of snacks and drinks. No more shopping I'm done for the holidays.

I find this game is most like Red Dead for the 360 with all the hunting ETC. So far, I'm liking it. The gun shots fee and sound great.

Buggiest...game...EVAR...

I've pretty much given up playing this. I get CTDs on my setup on this one left and right. It's too bad because it's a pretty fun game.

What a mess. I never experienced such a bug filled game. Should get a refund.
Hmmm. Probably one of the more stable games I've ever played as of recently.

Do a search for "Far Cry 3 Crash" and you'll see what I mean.biggrin.gif
post #29 of 34
Not seeing crashes either, but just started playing this week (about 10-20 hours into it, no crash). I suspect the usual driver or hardware issue here. You do have it patched up to 1.04 right? And not running beta video drivers etc.?

By far, this is the most stable and polished open-world game I've ever played. Sorry you're having a bad experience. But "buggy" is not a word I've seen many people use to describe FC3. The only crashes I got were when I tried OCing my graphics card a smidge.

People have had a variety of graphics issues, but that's been mostly fixed by now with nVidia and AMD driver updates. If you're getting crashes, I'd start there. Also, I'd pare down the graphical settings until you get it running stable and then add features one at a time. Also, you may want to check settings on your GPU management tools, and try DX9 instead of DX11.
