I am in the market for a new Subwoofer and I managed to convince my Dad to look at the pl200 but his only reservation is that I'm not sure if there is a manufacturer authorized repair depot in Canada, specifically in Ontario.

So im wondering if anyone knows a repair depot for Bic in canada.

Why don't you go with Sonic Boom audio in Markham? They deal in SVS Subs and warranty them here.

Thats an interesting suggestion. What about the price. Looking at their website it seems like their subs are all over $600. While I would easily pay that, this setup is for my dad and he doesnt want to spend any more than $300-400. Do they have anything there in that price range?

It's above your dad's budget but SVS just released or is releasing soon two 10" subs, one sealed, one ported. In the US they're $499. I don't know if/when they'll be available at Sonic Boom but that might be an option.

I contacted Sonic Boom Audio and this is what they said:

We will have the new SVS subwoofers towards the middle of December and the pricing should very similar to the US price like all the other SVS products we carry.
Please check back on our website in a couple of weeks for more details.

Good news!

Thats a promising response. Maybe Ill make it one of the arbitrary decisions and just pick it up.

This is what my room likes like and how the setup is, not ideal but it'll make do for now. The room is not very large, the dimensions are 18' wide X 12' long x 8' ceilings. Because of how open it is would the discussed subs provide ample power to fill the room during a movie and still sound good when playing music?

the split is 80/20 % for movies/music
My parents are by no means very critical when they listen to movies or music but I would still like to get them something that can show at least mild authority when needed.

Petden, I can't say, but I'd suggest shooting SVS or Sonic Boom an email and see what they say.
