Hi all.
Hope all is well with everyone.

I am going to jump in the AVT pool and I need some guidance.

I have seen several units on CLs and not sure which to buy.

I hear the Chatter on getting ATV 2 because you can put XBMC on it?

What is XBMC?

Why not ATV 3?

Why not ATV 1? It has a drive...?

Expandability?

I am Apple centric. Plenty of files etc...

Currently playing with Netflix on my PS3, but the PS3 is great as a media server. I found "Playback" and for the most part runs great. But... I want to incorporate another piece of the APPLE pie to my setup.

Thanks for all your GURU help.

Have a GREAT day!

The modded ATV2 allows for using XBMC as a front end, which will allow for playback of many different file formats....not just MP4 iTunes lock. But as I understand it, only 2 channel audio and a bit buggy. I have several ATV2's and 3's..... None are jailbroken/modded. BD rips encoded using Handbrake look stunning on the 1080p ATV3 and the Netflix and HuluPlus interfaces are great. For me, the unmoved ATV3 is a sensible, stable solution given all of my media resides in an iTunes library. This was an easy solution for me as I started on the iTunes path. For those who have lots of different formats.....the ATV3 might not be the easiest solution.

Mayham - thanks for that very helpful insight.

I guess it is the KISS principle for me.

Have a great weekend.
