Best way to share mouse and keyboard between two computers

I have a scenerio where I have two separate computers which I would like to use one keyboard and mouse.  These two computers already have their own dedicated monitors.

Due to certain restrictions, these computers cannot have any form of network connectivity between the two.

I will be switching back and forth several dozen times a day; or, I would need a way where a simple middle-mouse button click could toggle back and forth (or something similar to that).

How far away are they from each other. If they right next to each other a simple KVM switch should work.

Any simple 2 port KVM switch (like Belkin or IO Gear) should work. You would switch between them with a key combination like CTRL-Shift-F1 for the first machine and CTRL-Shift-F2 for the second machine. Key combination will vary by KVM manufacturer/model.

Edit: beat to the punch.

Which KVM are you referring to that supports toggling between two PC using a middle mouse button or mouse wheel?  All the KVMs I've seen require pressing a button on the kvm itself or a keyboard key; which, isn't what I want.

I never said any of them would. The keyboard combinations are about as "similar to that" as you are going to get.

If they're close together, I concur on the KVM too. I use and have a four port. My KVM sits within arms reach, so it's not a big to press a button in my case.

I haven't looked in years, but I don't recall ever seeing a mouse click being able to switch. Probably too easy to switch accidently that way. But some mouse programs/drivers have where you can program key strokes, ie marcos, so that could work for the keyboard switching.

My IO Gear KVM toggles between two computers by hitting scroll lock twice in rapid succession and this can be programmed to be whatever you want it to be. It works great. Every geek needs a KVM switch.
