yes, i am late to the game in learning this, but i use HDMI, so i havent had to worry about it.
i bought a new ultra slim ps3 for my parents as a blu-ray player (and gaming device if they get adventurous) on black friday for a great price.
They have an old rca projection tv that has one component input (their basic old 5.1 polk receiver has optical audio, so i'm good with that)
my old ps3 worked fine in showing BRs in HD over the ps2/ps3 component cable on their tv the one time i showed them how good their tv could look if they have an HD source.
i didnt know the newer standard for not allowing BR movies in HD over component until yesterday.
so anyway, my question
are their any solutions for this that actually output BR movies in HD? (games still output in HD just fine with component)
i've seen a $6 HDMI to RCA cable and i've seen $40 converter boxes.
do any of these actually work?
any solution other than upgrading the TV? they'll do it eventually, but not soon.
