Recommended Settings For A Sony xbr55hx950, As Well As Why Do People Enable Special Features

Hello,

Does anybody have any recommended settings for the Sony xbr55hx950?

Also, I've noticed that a lot or recommended settings have features such as "Edge Enhancer", "Advanced Contrast Enhancer", & "Motion Flow" uda uda uda turned to the OFF position. I haven't bought a TV in years and am ignorent to the technology, but I thought we are supposed to embrace these features to give us a better picture. For an optimal picture why do so many people turn these features OFF?

Any and all information given would be greatly appreciated.

This is the calibrations forum where we disuses the process of calibrating displays with special software and light meters. No 2 TVs are alike,even 2 of the same models. So there are no recommended settings. There are advance options that require the special equipment and knowledge to use and as such things like white balance, CMS and 10 point gamma can not be adjusted without said equipment. And with the variances in part specs to copy settings is really pointless.

You can however download the AVS 709 disk from this forum and us it to adjust the user level settings which will go a long way to improving you image.

NOTE this disk is burned to a standard DVD and only plays back in a BR player

As to the advance features, these are things created by the manufacture to muck with the image ... most of these do more harm than good and are for no other purpose other than marketing.

In the end, the goal of display calibration is have a display that produce an image as close to the Rec 709 HD standards as possible which means enhancements that add things that are not in the original source are not really what you want.
