My annual search is for a receiver (preferably with multi-room capability re audio) which can be totally controlled by wifi.
Has any manufacturer made such a unit yet?
I am able to control my Yamaha receiver through an Android/iOS app on my phone/iPod or through a web browser. Is this what you're looking for? Other manufacturers offer the same thing.

Almost all of the major manufactuer's have receivers in their line-up that can be controlled via IP control (wi-fi or wired) that also have multi-room capabilities. All you need to do is search here (AVS) or just a simple Google search will provide you with the answers that you're looking for.
I have an 18 year old Niles Analog switching system (still works) in my basement which feeds into stereo speakers in 3 rooms,
But to control it I need line of sight or use Niles switches embedded in the wall. If I started again I would certainly go all digital but I have the legacy hardware (speeakers) and speaker wiring all in place.
So my aim is to get rid of the wall Niles controllers and replace Niles Analog switches/amps etc with a plain and "simple" receiver which I can then operate from anywhere in the house by wifi.
I also have wiring etc for 5.1 system in basement.
So my ideal receiver would be wifi controlled feeding analog stereo speaker to 3 separate locations and also a basic 5.1 surround would be a winner. But absolute need is to make the 3 rooms working better.
Dashing down to the basement to change some settings gets tiring;)
Change your search to 'av receiver network control'. The receiver will most likely be ethernet which can be controlled by your 'wifi'. There are a bunch out there. I just upgraded to the Pioneer SC-1222-K which can be controlled via iOS, Android, PC, etc.
