My Panasonic is upconverting to 1080p but any thoughts on trying to output in native DVD res (480p) and letting the JVC upconvert? Does it have that capability?

Absolutely.

480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p/50 Hz, 720p/60 Hz, 1080i/50 Hz, 1080i/60 Hz, 1080p/24 Hz, 1080p/50 Hz, 1080p/60 Hz are all upconverted by the JVC.

Or...buy a Lumagen Mini3D biggrin.gif : I compared the upscaling of my JVC, my Oppo '93 and the Lumagen and the result was in that order worst to best. It's not that the JVC is unwatchable, but if you have an alternative to try then why not? It doesn't take long to try out whatever alternatives you have, so if you find the JVC is better at upscaling than your player, then use that option. Equally, if you're looking for an excuse to upgrade, then try the Oppo or go to the Lumagen (though it's better to have a player that can be set to 'source direct' if you go the Lumagen route, which in my case means the Oppo rolleyes.gif) as IMHO they are better than the JVC.

I'll see what I can do. Can't really say how it is as I have a masking system that covers the black bars, but Ill try to get a photo with masking down.

You have a nice projector. It's time to toss the DVD's & upgrade to Blu-ray...

I have 250 movies on DVD. Does replacing those count as a viable Kickstarter or Indigogo campaign? If not, the Magic 8 Ball says "Outlook not so good"

Hello and thanks for this thread.

I think that you have certainly switched the value between calibrated and uncalibrated.

You're welcome.

But I don't think I switched these values. This is the original reported info from Kraine (calibrated) and Zombie10k (uncalibrated).

Of course, there could be sample/lamp variation, so I will update post #1 with Zombie10k's calibrated #s when they're done.

Ok, I think that I have understood.

"Calibrated" means this is a user mode and it was calibrated

"uncalibrated natural" means this is the profil natural (factory) without any calibration

Am I right ?

Interesting. Normally the calibrated PJ has less lumens.

I have same firmware.

For those that have purchased the RS46, there is a software update. Please call me for details.

Hi Mike,

Just called JVC after talking with you. Spoke to "Rafael" (not 100% of the name, could barely understand him). He had no information on an update (put me on hold for a long while to check). He also said that if I needed to send the projector in it would be at my expense. I'll try again tomorrow, hopefully will talk to someone more helpful.mad.gif

Is the update for 3D only?
I contacted JVC here: http://secure.jvc.com/consumer/forms/contactsupport.jsp

Shouldn't they be bending over backwards for us? Maybe throw in an emitter and a few pair of glasses...

Is it true that it's not a do-it-yourself software patch?

I can't even watch DVD's anymore ( except Team America - World Police - no Blu Ray yet ). It's too painful to watch. It's like hitching mules up to pull your Maserati - a step backwards! eek.gif

UPDATE: The Monoprice HDMI male-to-female 90 degree port saver does not work with this JVC projector. It's not long enough to clear the JVC lip. I'd say it's about 1/16" or 1/8" too short.

Craig, you would be surprised what a Lumagen can do with a DVD. smile.gif

I realize that with it ceiling mounted I don't need to worry about the lip after all. But all the same, thanks so much for getting back to me on that.

In my opinion something should be done especially since these are your early customers. Lamp, glasses, extend warranty of some sort. Or the option to return the unit for full refund.
Well they are doing something: They are fixing the issue that you have by a firmware update. I don't see why they should have to give away £300 worth of extras as well.

Sorry, but compensation culture is one of my pet hates. It's the same mentality that has pushed up car insurance to stupid levels.

At a minimum they should sent new units. Then have customers return old unit. There have been reports of slow JVC service times. This is what Epson promotes and practices for there 6010/6020 models. How long will we be without a projector. Weeks...months?
