HDMI Input

I'm going to buy new home theater set, but I found that beside HDMI output, they've got HDMI input. I wonder is it possible to connect my Laptop/gaming console through HDMI to home theater then use HDMI out home theater to Tv. which deliver sound to TV and play sound by itself?
((Forget optical cable solution, I know that it's possible to do that, but don't how. And I prefer HDMI solution)).

speculating that you are looking at some sort of home theater in a box type system, not a separate AV receiver.
more info on make and model would go a long way in getting more replies, but if the heart of the unit has a HDMI input and output, it is almost certainly designed to accept auxiallary sources with HDMI, be it gaming console or satellite/cable box and allow switching from the included remote control between the built in disc player and the auxilliary device.
