How to get matrixed surround from PC outputs without a receiver

I have a pc set up that I use to watch streaming Netflix and other videos on the web. The PC has 7.1 outputs on the mobo. My front three speakers are active monitors that I have plugged in directly to the mobo outputs with RCAs. My question is how do I get a matrix output similar to pro logic 2 from my mobo so basically voices only come out of the center? I enabled the windows version of this but it is crappy and sounds like voices are coming out of all three fronts equally.

Also, windows only has basic bass management (small or large with a crossover freq). I need to get double bass from my mobo so that my active mains and the subs overlap. Any suggestions on how to do this? I don't want to use a receiver. I want the signals to come from the mobo.

i think you are gonna have to buy a sound card.

So is there no way to do this encoding in software and send it out the mobo outputs? What sound card will give me an options like double bass?

You can do it.

I find VLC player works best as a player... when playing a video file. Otherwise use the LAV audio settings and set up your downmix,

If your using netflix player... your limited there. SO you need a motherboard or soundcard application or a speaker system that does that,

My PC speakers have it built in. And so does my motherboard sound- it has some strange THX thing I could use.
And- My surround receiver has this too.

I think your set up is tough. What board do you have with what integrated sound application???

I broke down and got a cheap receiver off of craigslist. Didn't want another component for this system, but this was the easiest and best solution.
