Typical uses for colored buttons on remote

Hey folks. New member here and just picked up a Harmony Touch remote for controlling my Denon AVR, Blu-Ray, TV, and XBOX with one remote.

Obviously I have my activities setup per typical activities (watch tv, watch a movie, etc).

But I'm a newbie and don't know what the colored buttons are typically used for. Can you guys provide some guidance on how I might use them? What are some common uses? And do you know if the buttons on this remote are pervasive across all activities, or can the be programmed differently for each activity?

I tried to search and couldn't find the answers....

Many satellite, cable and dvd./blu-ray devices actually have color buttons on the original remotes.

They should be different per device
