What causes JVC pink stripe?

Hi
My JVC HD550 (RS15) has developed the pink stripe on the right side
Is this caused by the bulb or other internal components?
I'm at 1500 hours, one year warranty left

After reading that link posted, it seems like JVC has fixed the issue. It seems like it was a relatively easy one; change the glue and the procedure on which the optics get sealed. In the long run I'm sure this saved JVC tons of money and a lot of people frustration over units that would've gotten this issue.

I was wondering if the pink stripe worsens over time, or if one day it's just there?
Right now it's not so bad on my projector, but it's really bad in some of the pictures I have seen

I'm surprised the pink stripe issue didn't result in class action lawsuit. My RS20 was out-of-warranty and repair bill was almost 3K.

Because such a suit would not offer enough of a potential reward to a class action lawyer to undertake it based on winning and making a bundle. The FP projector market is just not large enough.moreover, if JVC fixes it under the warranty period nothing would be actionable.

I run my RS20 in high altitude mode in normal (low) lamp mode....at 1000 total hours of use, still no pink band (knocking on wood)....my theory is that if you can keep the projector/optics as cool as possible, the glue issue may be prevented.....

Another user denkiedenk has a different theory:
Completely by accident i left my pj running all night with the heating in the room fairly high ! (+- 28 degrees celsius inside). The weird thing is i noticed the pink line, wich had been there for several months already, DISSAPEARED ! about two weeks later it came back very slightly, so i decided to take a gambit, and used a blowdryer on the hottest setting and on low 'blowing' power, blowing gently hot air in the airintake, and oh yes, u could almost see the pink line dissapearing... since then it has never come back again....

I have tried this myself: I let the projector run all night with the lamp on High in a room warmer than average, and it seemed to me that the pink had disappeared (though the stripe itself was still there)
I'll check more thoroughly tonight

Update: It didnt' really seem to change anything, but I'll try the hairdryer thing before sending it in for service

You could try hitting it lightly on the side with a hammer or bouncing it too. I wouldn't. If its broke and still under warranty, why not get it fixed the right wa?. i think one would be follish do not get it fixed under warranty before the warranty expires. If you have months left, just wait until you have a lull period in your scheduled watching, like after thre NFL season ends or the end of the holiday period. self gum and baling wire fixes are never warranted unless one has no other real choice. JMTC

A good point... only I read about other cases where JVC owners were told that repair was not "cost-effective"
I'll send it in after Xmas/New Year

Once out of warranty, the repair would cost more than buying a new machine. Even if a little less, the machine fixed would be worth little. much better after warranty to go the new route. If i couldn't buy a new machine, then self fix or at least making the flaw more tolerable would be the way to go. be sure to use a rubber hammer, not a metal one. smile.gif
