Klipsch RW-12d on sale for $299 at Newegg.com again today! - Page 8

So I ended up picking one of these bad boys up. Won't be here till friday, but a friend of mine who lives close by who has been on a home theater journey with me as well wanted to bring his over to hook up to my setup to give it a workout as he was unable to turn it up at his place.

My room is 12x24 closed in with the doors closed etc..

Sub set to -15, my AVR set it to -2, I bumped it up to +2 to get a little extra shake.

We watched The Dark Knight rises and as I went out into the kitchen to get something to drink, everything in my kitchen was rattling. Mind you the kitchen is anoter 10 ft away on the other side of the wall and my house is ~3200 SQ FT, I turned it up a little more for gigles and it made any loose object in my room/house rattle. Absoloutely obnoxious cool.gif

OH FYI, I bought it on ebay, saw a good seller rating but never paid attention. Appears NewEgg was selling it on ebay for the $299 price while on the site it was the 499. Its back up to $999 on ebay now ... WTF?!

That was pretty much my experience as well. I don't see how people can have 2-3 or even more of these in a room. I would think bass would overpower the whole soundstage.

It was listed as a "Daily" Deal. It'll be back.

adding a second sub doesnt add a lot more volume, some yes, but not a lot more. i have two and would never go back, the bass distribution in the room is so much better with 2. worth it in every way

As alluded to in the above, adding more subs, in more locations, fills in voids or nulls; smoothing effect. Room aesthetics, that's a whole nother conversation.

^^

My subs about 2 feet away from my front left front in the corner of my room, even sitting in the far side away from the seating area with 1 sub (the little 8" onkyo HTIB) and even better when I had my friend RW-12D, you cant tell where the sub is sitting if you close your eyes, i guess im just lucky how it bounces around the room? but if you close your eyes your ears pretty much tell you its comming from each individual speaker rather than a centralized point in the room.

to be honest aside from how loud the RW-12 can get compared to the cheap onkyo, I honestly think its way to much for my room, I guess more is better then not enough wink.gif it does it the real lows much cleaner though which I guess is the real plus side to it

I'm calling shenanigans on the price.

17 pages of reviews on N*egg, and _EVERYONE_ got it for 350 or less.

They are either planted reviews, or the sub is always $350 and never anywhere near MSRP.

Still a good deal to get $50 off from that price.
I think the price at Newegg typically ranges between $299-499 from what I have seen with $350 being a typical sale ($299 being a very good sale).

The model is discontinues, so Klipsch must be using Newegg as an outlet to clear out all their remaining stock.

I'm guessing they find more old stock (as its discontinued) drop the price to clear it out, get the buzz going. Make money off of some less fortunate soul who doesnt know any better and pays 500+ and slow down the selling it, drop the price again to clear out more etc.

It's pretty smart to be honest, if you know it drops in price often, you check the site frequently, you find other deals on other things etc. Keep looking and if your patient you get what you want at the price you want it.

There was a short stint where it went for 279. Not that the extra 20 hurt anyone.

What, you think pricing for sale is without bs? Huh?

Everyone who posted may have gotten the deal, why would others bother if they didn't wait for the sale? Brag about not waiting?

Mine was $322 delivered at the $299 price....there's a little thing called tax here in California. $349 plus tax is starting to make me look elsewhere....but not much choice at that. Not too long ago I got a pair of Infinity PSW310s (10" driver, two 10" passive radiators, decent amp and wireless) for $ 250 each delivered. That was a better score since the Klipsch isn't wireless...altho the Klipsch digs a bit deeper.

I received mine the other day. Good thing they double boxed it. I dont see any damage to the sub itself and the port seems to be intact.

Same thing with mine. A hole larger than that one through both boxes. Luckily no damage to the sub. Gotta love oops, uh I mean UPS.

Same hole on mine lucky no damage or Loose ports
post #226 of 2776
Yeah, after reading the problem with the port I thought forsure I would have that. When I opened the main box the top foam peice was broken which I would think meant that it had a decently had drop to break it through both boxed but all seems well. The wife let me plug it in just to check to see if it worked but had to put it back and under the tree...........guess I have to wait until christmas to set it up and tune it in. Pretty excited.

Very strange. Mine also had a hole nearly identical. No damage to the sub. Wonder how many other people have had a hole like that? My first thought was that a single fork off of a fork truck had pierced it. It may sound goofy but that just seems strange to me.

I sure hope it's not in the ugly box but wrapped up and a nice big ribbon on it!

I did get to play with it a little bit before I packed it up. I have two towers that previously handled all the lows. It's been so long since I've messed with the manual settings in the MCACC that when I set this up recently I just did the full auto and left it. When I plugged the sub in just to try it I just set the sub to "ON" and didn't change anything else. I didn't notice much of a difference at all but it was working, I had to go to work so I didn't get to mess with it that day. I had a couple of hours yesterday and played with a few of the settings to get the full lower range to the sub and what a difference. Without even tuning it in it sounded 10X better than before, mainly because you can actually "Feel" the action, explosions etc. That's exactly what I need it for. My system sounds great, it was just missing the low lows. I believe my Towers only go down to around 30Hz and are driven strictly by the receiver. They sound great but they just don't have what this has. I'll update you guys after christmas. I have to finish fishing the cable through to be able to place it where I want.

I threw it in the Klipsch Box which looks untouched, only the outside box was damaged. I don't even know if she is going to bother to wrap it because it's so heavy for her. She will probably just stack all my Dewalt goodies on top of it and push it to the side of the tree smile.gif

And that folks is what's known as deceptive practices.

Let's seeeee, will he notice the Klipsch product or the DeWalt products. Hmmmmmmmmm! tongue.gif

Mine also had a hole in the outside box....and it did damage the inside box also. There is VERY little room between the sub and the inside box...especially the front of the sub where the driver and screen are. It actually shocked me at how horrible the sub is put in there. Luckily my sub was unscratched and works perfectly.....but really Klipsch? You're retail price on this sub is $1,000 and that's how you pack it?!?!?! Thank god Newegg double boxes!!!!!
FWIW....it's $349 at the Egg right now....still a very solid deal....

Or Klipsch assumes people paying $1000, the showroom guy at the AV store will load it and install it and treat it like a baby.

Who'd sink to selling it for pennies on the dollar on a discount website.

lol

ps. cant wait for mine to come. Stupid blizzard.

If you root around online (data-bass), you'll see the BIC, PL-200 sub has a terrible graph.
I'm not knocking BIC but my understanding is, BIC is low end while Klipsch goes up to reference high end and commercial, THX theater applications; experience.
The above is what I'm basing my opinion on. If I've missed something, please let me know.

I base it on owning one and many tests I've done. The bic is NOT tuned at 30hz, it is tuned to 22hz.

You are probably getting room gain that provides useful bass down past 30hz (although I am not sure how clean).
But Josh's measurements don't lie. The Bic is significantly down from 31hz to 25hz (6+ db) which indicates a native tune at 30hz:

Just got my Klipsch 12D delivered today. It's my first sub I have ever owned, so pretty excited for that. Just ordered the AVR 2113CI open box from Amazon, so I am not able to hook the sub up, yet, which is a bummer. So, obviously, I am not a sub expert. I am happy to report, however, the sub came double boxed and in pristine shape. I know a lot of people are concerned w/ the poor QC of these subs. I shook mine just to make sure I didn't hear any rattle and everything sounds secure. I know the issue w/ the port damage during shipping is hit and miss, and just because my appears to be in good shape doesn't mean the problem is fixed. But, there is some encouragement for those sitting on the fence smile.gif
