It's not a brand new. It's used. What do you think?

I would spend the extra $50 and get this factory refurbished/factory warrantied Velodyne instead.

Spec wise it doesnt look as good as the 12HG. What are the advantages of the Velo?...other than warranty

My dad has a 10" Synergy sub that that's meh. Meanwhile, that Velo has DSP that is in their higher end models, and the more advanced features like the high pass filter on the RCA outputs. And then there's the 60lb vs. 47lb shipping weight. Could be due to extra cabinet materials in the slot port design, but still indicates a heavier made sub.

Yeah. It's a guess, but the extra power in the Klipsch isn't that significant. All other things being equal, that might only be a couple of db extra output. If the Velodyne driver is better, could easily have more output. Rated frequency response on the low end is within 1db, so that's a wash.

So $700 MSRP Velodyne with those things vs. $500 MSRP Klipsch. I'll take the Velodyne smile.gif

My investigations suggest that, fewer of the right expensive subwoofers give you more for your money than many of even the better inexpensive subs.

A lot of the cost of building a sub is in the box, and once you build the box, a higher proportion of the cost can go into the driver.

However, as has been discussed in the DIY section, just "swapping out" this driver for a "better" one is not a good idea.

Not in this case. I'd rather have what I bought instead.

really? I thought the amp is where the majority of the cost is?? that is why I find SVS and PSA extremely appealing with thier 5yr bumper to bumper warranty. Especially with amp failure rates at a all time high these days.

Most every speaker in my profile. 7 pair of Klipsch, plus 3 single (2 as center, 1 SW); & 1 of the SW being discussed, of course.

Can list, if wanted, or look at my FULL profile for lists & pics.

So now that cedarpc is sold out, I can't exchange by broken sub (the display doesn't work).

I asked if they would give me a partial refund, but they said no. So I have a couple options:

-return the defective sub, and live with just one for now.
- return both subs, and get just one LV12R
- keep the defective sub, and I won't be able to access any settings on it (but it sounds find)

What do you guys think? I love how these sound, and they match the rest of my (klipsch) speakers so I like the look too. But I'm annoyed. If I get the LV12R, it will be an extra $200 for just one sub vs having two. I could just live with it for now, but I'm annoyed the display doesn't work. I should have tested it at the store but I trusted them. Plus I couldn't test sound anyway.

What do you guys think?

Send back the broken one.
Just go with one for now? I'm annoyed they won't just discount it for me. Maybe when I show up with it broken in the store they'll change their mind.

I mean what kind of business owner would rather cancel a sale than get, say 50-70% of a sale?

Oh well. I think you're right. Then in 6 months or so I'll just buy an LV12R or something to pair with the existing rw-12
post #2690 of 2776
That's what I'd do, buy something else to go with the good one.

I only got 1. SW-115 for me or another on eBay. 6 months from now, they will be inexpensive.

If anyone is curios, someone on eBay is unloading a bunch RW-12d speakers right now. I bought one from them that was marked as new for a second sub in my room. They have something like 15 that are scratch and dent. They sold 10 that were new very fast for $310 so they increased the cost naturally.

I don't think I could have done better for under $400 though right? Although if I lived in Cali I guess I could have had 2 for that price!

I sold my dual Klipsch RW-12D for $400. biggrin.gif

Well after receiving mine cosmeticlly damaged by the carrier, going back and forth with them and the seller, we ended up sticking it to the carrier and I got it for $200! I'm happy.

I am looking for one additional RW-12D to finish off my set...I guess I waited too long  :-(

If anyone is looking to sell one, please PM me.

Thanks much!

I found one used on Craigslist for $275. In the box. Should I get it? I keep reading about chuffing.
See if you can listen first; I'd buy another.
What would you buy?

edit: How come? The chuffing?
