Klipsch RW-12d on sale for $299 at Newegg.com again today! - Page 17

I think there was one other guy missing the cord and he sent the whole sub back. I just can't remember what thread it was in.

My top right grille peg is broken off in the hole, yay.

Also, there are remnants of hot glue on my driver frame. Whoo.

But I did get the power cord, and it does sound soo much better than my old Velodyne..

Thanks, I might have a spare one lying around from an old PC build. I swapped the cord from my first RW-12d to make sure it works and everything's copacetic in that regard at least. I caled Newegg and they're checking the warehouse, but the girl said I could contact Klipsch and if I can buy a spare / replacement from them, Newegg will refund me. Unfortunately Klipsch customer service was closed by the time I found it so it'll have to wait until Monday. I'll take a missing power cord over a broken port or what have you

So where exactly did you see the hot glue...if I look inside the port and look into the sub I can see strings of hot glue ?  WTF ?  Is this factory?  Did they refurb a bunch and now selling them off as new ?

I'm starting to wonder if these subs aren't refurb as well. Considering the complaints you read about, as well as the fact that this sub has been disconinuted for a while now. I can't imagine they really had that much extra stock of this particular sub.

I know Newegg does deal with alot of refurbished items. Maybe they're just not telling people that these are.

I am starting to suspect they are refurbs as well.

Mine was packaged well and looked new, but I have a couple concerns..

1. Broken grille peg.
2. Remnants of glue on the woofer frame
3. Scratches on the screen (is this normal?)

Thankfully the port tube looks okay and the woofer isn't falling off..

Yeah the whole hot glue all over the inside just looked strange...mine did look new otherwise.  I guess is really does not matter - but that would explain the crazy good prices on this.

It could also just be cosmetic imperfections as the reason why they're refurb. Which is no big deal really. I have no problem buying refurb items, just would be nice to know what I'm buying.

I don't like refurb items. And I REALLY don't like buying a refurb item that is advertised as "NEW"

Some of you guys are kill me..... the 2 that ive have gotten over the last few months have been BRAND NEW with NO issues at all. Thats not to say that 50 lb subwoofer that has been moved around a warehouse for months and that UPS has thrown around will not be damaged.I've owned tons of refurbs and these subs are not refurbs.

Ha. It's also kinda weird how it's listed as "Klipsch Reference RW-12d 12" Powered Subwoofer Each w/ New box". With a new box? Wouldn't it say new period?

Sorry if I'm starting a rumor here, I just haven't trusted Newegg for anything besides computer gear for a while now. Bought a "New" phone from them a while back and realized it was a refurb. Or better yet, another phone I planned on buying from them would come in two versions. An ATT version and a Verizon. There was no way to select which version you wanted to buy, it was simply a "get what you get" type of thing. I called up Newegg and was told that they simply receive boxes and can't know the carrier version unless they open the boxes. When I asked where they were getting these phones from if they just came randomly packaged, they couldn't tell me.

I could be wrong but I believe they started that "New box" thing when they started double boxing the subs for shipping.

You are right. They had a good percentage being damaged in shipment and started double boxing them. The new box is simply the 2nd box.

Mine was double boxed as well..it certainly didn't appear to be 'refurbished'.

Everything about it looked 'new' IMO.

It's possible these are 'discontinued' but still being made and given to Newegg...possible with cheaper construction to account for the good sale prices.

Kind of like how Polk was still making the Monitor Series ii speakers specifically for Newegg long after the Monitor Series was discontinued everywhere else.

Just to note...the RW-12d starting to grow on me and separating itself from the BIC F12 I had been using before.

Definitely worth the extra 100 bucks.

If in doubt, go with the RW-12d.

Trust me on this...I've owned both and was actually impressed with the BIC F12.

As much as I like the BIC F12...it's kind of a one-trick-pony. But, in it's defense, it does that 'one trick' very well for 200 bucks(large 'BOOM' and 'RUMBLE' during loud action scenes).

But the Klipsch just seems to be making itself 'noticed' constantly during music and movies.

Not the conspiriacy theory again. Both of mine were brand new, of this I have no doubt.

No doubt they are new. They've just had QC issues of late with missing cords and loose tubes. Some guy on the factory line could be a new guy or just doesn't care about good work making his dollar a day. At least it's not a high percentage so chances are you'll get a good one.

I got 4, 3 of them arrived just fine and were brand new, and worked great. I had one where the port tube was loose and rattling around on the inside, I was able to reach in and reconnect it, but it must have knocked something else loose because my sub pulsated even when not connected to my stereo. So I got an RMA and sent it back for a replacement.

I have 2 setup in my LR right now set to "depth" and the bass these things put out is pretty sick. So forceful I can actually feel the bass all throughout the main floor. My 15" got deep, but I couldn't feel it like I can feel it with the 12. I'll double check with only 1 on instead of 2, but still pretty impressive.

Only complaint is occasionally when something hits really hard there is some rattle on the sub, which is related to the plastic trim on the lower front. However I'll eventually try the trick of cramming some black foam strips into the gap so this doesn't rattle anymore (which is only noticeable occasionally when something hits really hard).

Try taking the grill off too. If you haven't already.

Thanks so much! Received mine today and guess what.. Wrong cable included. Newegg support said they can RMA the whole thing but have no way to replace the cord. The specs posted helped me choose the correct one from my stash of old power cables..

 

These HAVE to be refurbs....no way would the factory be shipping so many with missing and/or wrong cords.  Not causing trouble, just saying!

It does seem kind of strange that they keep having these sales, then run out of stock. Then all of a sudden get more stock in for a discontinued product. I'm wondering if people return them, from not only NewEgg, but other vendors and then they return them to Klipsch and Klipsch attempts to fix or successfully fixes whatever is wrong and then when they have a bunch ready to go, contact the vendor and say we have 200 units ready to be put back on the street.

Should I get the rw-12d for $350 (current price at newegg)? or Velodyne EQ-Max 15 Inch, 750 Watt Powered Subwoofer for around $550? I have a big room 19x30x9.

I think it's more about controlled sales to keep you coming back to the site and looking around. Doubt if Klipsch actually refurbishes anything but I could be wrong and doubt the returns would be that numerous either. What two or three have a missing cord, one an incorrect cord and that's now hundred returning for this reason? You spend too much time on forums

Wait a bit for $300 again and get two of them.
