They are a little better. They also cost another $200. And if you want to spend another $300 more than that you can get something a little better than that. And if you want to spend another $500....

I just got an SVS PB-1000 and really like it so far. I paid $499 for it and it came on Friday. I plan on adding a 2nd one in the next few months because of my room size, but it is doing pretty good by itself.

The nice thing about SVS is the 5 year warranty, the 45 day in-home trial, and the 1 year upgrade policy. So I can send this back within a year and get full credit toward the purchase of another sub!

I like those options too. I wish there was someone that could compare in person both the RW-12D and the PB1000. Don't get me wrong I like my RW-12D, but if there is a big difference in sound then I wouldn't mind selling my RW-12D and getting the PB-1000.

I would love to hear that comparison as well. I was torn between getting dual RW-12s now or dual PB-1000s later and went with SVS for the following reasons:

• The PB-1000 digs deeper.
• The RW-12D is discontinued.
• Many members have been getting them with loose port tubes, missing power cords, broken grill pegs, and defective lcd displays.
• The customer-friendly policies at SVS

That's true. Is there another sub for the $600 dollars range better than the PB1000 or SB-1000? I was thinking of buying another RW-12D for $300 since its on sale, but if I can't get something with better sound and combine it with my current RW-12D, I would rather do that

I guess I am a few of the lucky ones that good a good one.

No, you're one of the many that got a good one. So far, I only see ONE person with a lit led screen. I don't remember that many reports of missing power cords. The loose port is a problem that seems to be easily addressed. And I think newegg and Klipsch have been very responsive to problems.

I'd LOVE to know how many they've sold (and how much money they can make on it for $300!).

I am pretty sure they are making pretty good $$$ since they keep bringing the sale back every month for $299.99.

More than likely just a way to keep cash coming in and reducing inventory at this price point or simply attracting people to their website to buy other stuff (like profitable interconnects...fess up how many of you bought silly "subwoofer" cables? ). Just what do you think "good money" is on a piece of av gear these days?

Using these forums to judge overall quality control issues can be misleading. There really are only a relatively few problems having been reported, outside of the relatively easy to fix port tube glue issue, and that's from the most anal of the anal that use these forums. I do remember someone reporting an improperly installed LCD screen and then the recent light issue. Hardly a major problem for LCDs...

FWIW I bought one for myself and one for my brother, no issues at all.

As far as I know I was the only one with a missing power cord. Other than that issue both of mine were in mint condition.

am I the only one in this thread with the LCD issue?

I don't know if I want to go through the trouble of returning/exchanging the unit but also don't know what the long term affects of the lcd being on ALL the time....

 

 

There was one other member who had the wrong cord in the box. That's it as far as cords go AFAIK. The biggest issue has been the loose port tube. I'd still buy one and fix the tube if I were in the market for a $300 sub.

Rythmik recently upgraded their well known FV12 sub to the LV12R. It's on sale for $549 shipped. It would be my choice for a sub under $600.

No pictures of it yet on their website, but you can see it in this post and the posts that follows in the Rythmik Owners Thread.

The background light will burn out sooner. Other than that there should be no adverse affects. LCD is ordinarily a very reliable display. It creates no heat so that is not an issue.

After a period of not being used, does the display read "Standby"? If not, in addition to the light being on, you're not going into standby mode. You might consider that a problem.

Well, it would hurt the electric bill. Someone posted that these suckers draw like 200 watts with no sound going to them.

That ranks up there with some of the most outrageous stuff that I have ever heard. I hope you dont believe that. Whoever told you that has no understanding of amplifiers or electronics in general. That would almost be the equivalent of saying a 100 watt light bulb still uses 100 watts when its off. Just an educated guess but I would say that the rw uses between 2 and 5 watts when not getting a signal. The LCD display is very efficient and likely uses less than a watt or 2. It would be even less for the display but his light will not go off.

I've owned mine for nearly a week now. Zero problems and so far I haven't seen any evidence that my $560 for the two RW-12Ds was a waste of money. Had somone over last night to watch a movie last night, their opinion was that they made a really good difference in sound, but needed more bass. Cranked the volume on the subs from -20db to -16db and they thought it was perfect and very enjoyable.

$600 was my budget for a sub (or subs) and personally do not feel like I wasted my money. I truly feel the opposite.

BTW, I did spend an extra $28.58 total shipped for 2 of the 10 Meter Forza-700 sub cables. I don't think they made much more profit on this purchase

This person said they bought a Kill-A-Watt and plugged the RW-12D and that it read over 250 watts of power consumption just sitting there. I trust the Kill-A-Watt as people have been using these to measure device usage for quite some time. The post is located here. Maybe you do not believe him, but until I see someone using a similar device to prove it wrong, then I will.

Ok, I just received and unboxed my second sub last night. This one was delivered with the exterior box a little beat up but, for the most part, intact. Interior box was flawless and the sub itself is in great shape. No loose port, broken grill pegs or scratches and it goes into standby with no issues. It came out so well it almost makes me regret not sending my first one, that was delivered with a scratch, back instead of just accepting the $20.00 discount Newegg offered. My first one also had a broken grill peg but a quick call to Klipsch straightened that out easy enough.

I would be interested in what the standby energy use is because right now I have one that goes to standby and one that doesn’t.

Overall, very happy with my purchases and would do the exact same thing again, giving the pricing.

Based on all I've read, one watt/hr in stand-by is pretty much the norm for all the subs I've seen stand-by specifications on. Give Klipsch customer service a call and see what they have to say as I don't see anything posted on the Klipsch website for the RW-12d.
