Hello Folks. Very long time lurker, but finally buying 5.1 system, and ready to ask questions. Home theater area is about 14' L X 10 ( living room that opens to kitchen). I ordered take energy 5 speaker (recent newegg deal) and was gonna buy a dayton sub or a Vic V-80 (also craigslist -new in box $80, maybe less ). I was also gonna buy a $200 (maxish) 5.1 AVR (like denon or pioneer?).
I originally thought pioneer sp-bs21 speakers were too large, but I realize I do have room for them , and want best sound possible. Speakers will be stand mounted, as can't hang things (Apt complex ).
So I wanted to get opinions on these "Craigslist Deals" vs Take Energy speakers and $100 sub for a decent/budget system.
On Craigslist, I have Pioneer SP-BS21(x2)+SP-C21 for about 50$. Sounds like a good deal, as just sp-c21 is that on NewEgg and bs21 are 80? I would need to buy another 2 speakers, but 3.1 is fine until find a deal on two more speakers. Also need sub?
Another "deal", is a complete 3.1 home theater system for $400. The speakers are center Paradigm CC-370, plus two Focus L/R , and a Velodyne Sub (model unknown right now). Also, including Denon avr-1912 receiver. Their asking $400, but I am good at haggling, so would be lower :-). Again, have to buy 2 more speakers? Big issue to mix and match speakers?? See another deal for Vic DV62si (x2) for $50? or use the sp21 speakers??
I see that Denon 1912 is last year model, but highly rated, and meets my needs (plays sound, hdmi, airplay-many apple products). The Velodyne sub and paradigm speakers are also quality brands.
I am new to audio/speaker stuff, but work in IT for living (background info).
Appreciate any and all help/opinions. Thank you.
