Surrounds hiss

I have a 5.1 set up with in ceiling speakers and twice already after pausing the tv the surround speaker hisses The hissing stops after I resume watching tv. The speakers are powered by a Denon avr.

Speakers don't hiss. They can only reproduce the signal sent to them, so the source is in your electronics.

Check where your power sources are plugged in and you can usually find the component casing the problem. Then move that to another outlet. I had the same problem with a blu-ray player and switching it to another power strip solved my problem.

Line conditioners don't do anything useful, so it's a moot point.

Only if the hiss is there with nothing plugged in is the AVR is at fault. But if the hiss doesn't occur when you're listening to the TV I wouldn't be concerned.

What do you mean by if nothing else is plugged to the avr? I have nothing plugged to the avr except avr and all components are plugged to the line conditioner. What do I need to look for?

The hiss was also present when listening to music with dvd player thru avr

Start with the bare AVR, If there's no hiss the AVR is fine. If there is it's at fault. If the AVR is OK add one component at at time. When hiss results it's that component which is at fault.

If it's the avr does that mean avr is bad?

How much of a Hiss is a concern? I notice mine hiss when place my ear close to the surrounds also. cant be heard 3 feet away tho.

Not necessarily. All electronics create hiss. The higher the S/N (signal to noise) ratio the lower the hiss, but also the higher the price. If it's not loud enough to bother you it's not loud enough to worry about.

The hiss I do not hear it while im listening to something. I only heard it a couple of times only when I paused what I was watching and once I resumed and re paused it went away.
