Inexpensive tripod for Audyssey microphone setup?

Hi all,

I'm looking for an inexpensive tripod to lend a hand with my microphone placement for Audyssey MultEQ setup, and I was wondering if someone could link me one that did the job for them. There seems to be a ton of options out there! Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. Was there a particular model there that worked well for you, bsoko?

Something like this http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_SP101A10877S4566499801P?sid=IDx20110310x00001i&srccode=cii_184425893&cpncode=32-201833780-2 but may limit positioning. Parts Express has some relatively inexpensive boom mic stands that give you more options but might be more than you want....http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=233-020 or http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=233-006

Audyssey Multieq microphones are usually not made to fit a regular microphone stand. They look like they were made to sit on a table or a chair.

The counterpoint is that the common "boom stand" is a very good tool for positioning microphones and are available for low prices given what they are.

But that doesn't help you attach a mic that looks like this:

Perhaps a little gizmo like this will help:

The Audyssey mic at the bottom (not seen on the above pic) has the same size thread as a camera, so it easily fits on a camera tripod. To use it with a mic stand you need an adaptor.

In this answer in the Audyssey FAQ are links to exactly what you need to ensure a good result, along with useful tips on how best to use them:

d)1.   Do I really need to put the Audyssey mic on a tripod or stand?

When I had my Audyssey mic, I screwed in a long bolt to the bottom of the mic then mounted it to the clip for holding. Take the mic and go to Lowes or home Depot for a 3" bolt. The mic clip will hold it in position.

I forgot about those - very cool.

Tripods for video cameras can work, and are probably the cheapest and most available things around.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Great information.

If you are in a bind and want really cheap, a lot of lamps have a screw on top for the lamp shade and your mic will screw right on to it. Works pretty good...

I use my camera tripod. It was $20 model. Works fine.
