made a slight oopsie in my planning.....subs aint gonna fit

Soooooo. i made myself some nice THTLP's. They turned out great imo. But theres now a problem.

i originally thought i would have a lot of placement options, but after i got everything in the basement demoed and started measuring i realized these would HAVE to go in the front corners. No big deal i thought. thats a great place to have as an only option.

BUT now, i started to measure things out on the front wall:

wall is 204" wide

THTLPS are 19" deep if i had them sideways

my mains are 26" wide

a 92" screen is about 87" wide

add all this up and i get 177". subtract that from my total wall length and it leaves me 27" to space everything out with. that would be like 6" between the subs and the mains and another 6" between the mains and the screen. add that to the fact the mains stick out 16.5" pushed back to the wall and you have quite a cluster.

THT's aint gonna fit!! AHHHHHH

i put a lot of work into these things to. Definitely a learning experience. anyone else mess up like this?

what do you guys think?

that still leaves the front messed up. i would still have to have similar spacing on both sides. the ONLY option i would have is both together on the back wall but that would be funky and also kill my rear surround plans.

So I assume you have a fixed (not acoustically transparent screen)? How much room under the screen?

I have an AT screen, and have my two THT LPs firing into the left and right corners, laying flat, behind the screen - wondered whether you could do something similar, if they'd fit below (or behind if an AT screen).

That's a nice setup but it won't work for me. I don't plan on getting a at screen because my viewing distance is already short. 10'. Also my mains are cornscalas. Too big to be up that high. I'm not really going for a dedicated theater. That's why I built the THT's like this

Wait, so they fit with 27" left over or they don't fit? What's wrong with 6" of space between things? Why can't you put your mains in front of the THT's?

They look really nice as columns BTW. cool.gif

27" left over. There's another issue. I wanted to put them on risers to get them closer to the ceiling but one of the darn vents is in the way so I can't even do that. I could do it if I didn't have them side ways but then the mains would have to go in front of them. I think that would put the mains too close to the seats. This is a media room and I do a lot of two channel listening so the positioning of the mains is very important. Not that it isn't in a dedicated room but you know what I mean.

Can you lay them down and put your speakers on top of the THT's? just use them as stands.

They would be up too high and I wouldn't be able to tow them in. Not to mention the vibrations n

Lol yeah right! They would shake the whole house!!!! I can't get them to the ceiling anyway. Thee is venting in the way.

Well I think your going to get to actually.

I started thinking about what nograveconcern and Brad said and started measuring some more. For now, I'm going to still put them up front in the corners. I'll have them facing forward so I can still get them on risers and the one on the right clears the air return. By that I mean the wide side facing forward. Not sideways as I was first going to do. The one on the left will block a small amount of window but i dont think its a big deal. I'll see how this works for now while the plasma is still down there.

My plan for when I get the pj and screen will be to get a at screen and bump the wall out far enough to have a clear view from the side seats and fit my center speaker behind it.

So I think the crisis has been avoided. Thanks everyone for the ideas.

If I put them on the sides I would want them standing up but then I would be challenged with surround speaker placement.

What you don't see in the first pics is that the wall on the left is actually bumped out and it's length is shorter than the tht. That's why I can't lay it down

Here's a shot showing the right side wall. The surrounds should go about where the wall is open a few inches. The tht will have to squeeze between that and the air return hanging Down. Unless I don't use risers. Which Bill did recommend I try first ...

Your right. I think I can get them over to the sides and still have breathing room for my surrounds which are the size of Klipsch Heresys.

And that will also allow me to make 12" tall risers getting the mouth about a foot from the subfloor ceiling. I want to get the most output out of these as I can.

Ahhhhrgh!! They won't work on the sides either. It just doesn't give me the placement I want. They will be in the way of the surrounds. Big time reflections. And if I move them forward out of the way of the surrounds, I won't be able to get them up as high as I wanted.

These low vents suck but I can't move them. Im not crazy about the pole right in the middle of the damn area either.

I spent a lot of time on these. I'm extremely bummed out. I'm just going to post them so I can move on with something else and get this basement done.

Thanks for the ideas guys. It's not the size of them. It's this damn low vent work. No wonder it used to all be soffetted in.

What if you place the THTLP where the surround speaker would go and hang the speaker on the sub?

They are crites cs-1t's. way too heavy. Would also put them too close to the seats.
