unless those are different than the ones I'm familiar with the spring keep them in the closed position. If the spring breaks they won't stay closed.

Could be those don't have springs and just click into the closed position. Then I would be wrong. I've never seen that style that weren't spring loaded.

I believe those are the click-closed type Stanley.
And if by fire damage, you dont mean the big "stain" on the back of both units? That is the shadow of the person taking the photo?
