Looking to build a 5.1 setup starting w/ Bose 301's left and right

Hey folks -
Looking for some advice. I'm looking to build a HT setup and I'm starting with a Samsung 58" Plasma and 2 Bose 301's. These 3 "parts" are already mounted on the wall, so I'm hoping to keep them in place and build from here.

Reading the forum It sounds like I'm going to want to replace the 301's with something else eventually, but for now I'm thinking I'll use them as the front left and right.

With that as the basis, I'm looking to add a center-channel, a sub, and 2 rear surrounds.

Any suggestions? I've read a LOT that I should be looking to match my speakers so they sound good together, but I've also read a LOT of threads saying Bose is NOT the best stuff on the market, so I'd hate to build out with Bose simply because of 2 speakers I already own that I'll be willing to replace eventually anyway.

I'm new to this and would appreciate any guidance. Should I try to select a set of center, sub, and rears without concern for how they'll "interact" with the 301's for now?

Or are there "good" speakers that will "play nicely" with the 301's until I replace them?

Jim - in terms of budget I'd like to get the speakers for maybe $600-700. I'm looking at the Yamaha 473 receiver, so that would put the total around $1k.

The TV area is approximately 13x13' (walls left, right and where the TV is mounted) and the seats are about 10 feet from the TV. But it's in the basement, so there is a large open area behind the seating...

Since it a basement and my kids are constantly playing in the open area behind the seating I was hoping to mount the rears from the ceiling...
