Looking to buy a new tv for the bedroom connected to an AT&T uverse box

I will be putting it on a bookshelf that is 7.5" deep x 30.5" wide for the base of the tv.

The wall is aprox. 42" wide where the bookshelf is.

Main video source would be a AT&T U-verse Motorola VIP1200 via hdmi

Looking for 1080p if possible
Smart tv

Any suggestions?

Viewing distance is aprox. 10.5' at apox. A 45 degree angle or less ( nothing to measure it right now)

Find out the Maximum Weight Limit of the shelf - that sounds like a pretty skimpy stand.

Also make certain you can tether the top of the set to the wall behind the bookcase, to help prevent it falling face forward on to your floor.

At 10.5 feet, and ASSUMING a diagonal screen size of 42" Or Less (perhaps 46" for a thin bezel unit - ??), 1080p won't be Critical.
Unless your vision is unusually acute, a 720/768p panel will suffice.

However, a 45-degree angle could be enough off-center to impact the PQ of SOME LCD panels - with Edge-lit ones being the most like to have problems.
That, at least, is something you may be able to check out yourself with a visit to a local store. Simply walking up & down the TV aisles will show that some LCD panels do a pretty good with off-center viewing, while on others the PQ falls off Rapidly....

Obviously you will need to find a stand that will fit your 7.5" depth, with is likely to be more of a problem than the 30" width - but you'll want to measure both, to be on the safe side....

The shelf is a hand built poplar book shelf currently full of books.

I was hoping there was some site where you put in your specs and out pops the stand/tvs that fit.

No such luck, TTBOMK. Closest would be hoping to find schematics on manufacturer's website(s).

Probably will require a visit to a local store (or several), with a measuring tape in hand.

At least that would give you some idea of where to start looking, as Stand designs are all over the map.

what about the samsung UN32EH5300F?

also for samsung http://www.samsung.com/us/televisions/SamsungTVSelector.html

it only has a 120hz clear motion though.

It seems that most sub 50" panny tv's are a bit wanting. (no wifi) however it seems that there stands are 9.8" or greater =(

Would not worry about "only" 120hz - doubt it makes much of a difference in real world viewing, and have read a number of reviews that recommended turning such processing OFF...

Try looking at / posting your ? under the LCD thread. Might find someone with actual experience with that model / siblings....

Any 720p will work fine with UVerse. We have a 32" Sony Bravia in our bedroom, which works great for just wanting to catch up on something while laying in bed. In all reality, 1080p is not going to do anything for you with UVerse, since the max resolution available is 1080i, and the tv will upscale anyways.

Get a roku, or small form factor blu-ray player. Smart tv's can go outdated very quick. Some are showing their true colors when it comes to not able to handle streaming.

? i.e. my blu-ray player doesn't have a way to add titles to my netflix queue. is that what you mean?
