Is Duratex only available online? I haven't seen it at any of the local shops.

I've never seen it locally. You could get the roll on bedliner material which is essentially the same thing. If you're after Duratex you're going to have to get it online.

You can get great deals on bedliner kits on ebay. I did my last two trucks with Herculiner for $80.

This is an option locally I've found. Any good?

1 gallon is $60.

Luke,

This is what I have went to on the bracing...Basically doubling up on everything. If you have enough left over wood maybe get some of that in there. I would concentrate on adding the extra bracing around the throat, mouth and driver to keep that panel from flexing. That seems to be the area with the most pressure.

I should be completely finished with the update to the design and prints mid next week. I'm almost done.

Looks simple enough.

Thanks!

Hope two of these will satisfy your itch man. If not, guess you could whip up a few more...

You keeping the other pair sealed?

We'll find out.

I've been messing around with near-field placement with one of the cabs to bump that nasty 50hz null in my room and I'm getting pretty close to something I like.

If two of these monsters and two sealed don't do it, god help us!biggrin.gif

+1 biggrin.gif

Luke do you have any small animals or children who could crawl in those things lol. Our cat loves bass and would get in the horn if he could. He's f'n nuts cause I can't even be near them at full go...it hurts.

Luke,
I might have already asked but what do you have for an EQ unit?

A balanced miniDSP.

I also have a dcx2496, but I'm probably going to sell it.

I do have 5 kids, but no pets. I think the bracing on the front port should limit any of the kids from getting in there biggrin.gif

Bass cat!?!?

Sounds as awesome as the Skateboarding Bulldog.

Looking good. I will post the basic EQ needed to flatten the response out when I get a chance.
Great!

Josh, Any chance you would want to start a new thread with all the updated info in it?

Compatible drivers, EQ, recommended materials, updated plans, etc......

He has a thread already for the Ghorn.
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1270922
Here he talks about a few things and then the final pictures of the Ghorn. I think Ricci also mentioned before that there were a few drivers that would work in this subwoofer such as the UXL, ULTRA and maybe a FI subwoofer.
Ya, I remember, perhaps he could rename it. It would be nice to have a central repository for all the data.

Just sent in a deposit for two UXL-18's. I'll be joining you Luke when Ricci updates the plans! I went ahead and grabbed a Kreg kit too. Thanks guys for introducing it to me.

Talk about bang for the buck. The cost of the UXL plus all the wood is under 1k!

Yup if I can sell my DTS-10 I can build two Gjallarhorns and only be digging 400$ or so into my pocket!

Luke: Are you using butt joints for everything or cutting the angles?

I'm using butt joints, but I am cutting the slight angles so everything lines up flush.

Nice work. They must be staring to get a little heavy.

Ya, that's what I have been saying. It is amazing what you can get for that little coin.
The form factor can be a big limiter for some, but the value is off the charts.

If anyone local has a UXL-18 and wants to test it in one of these cabs before pulling the trigger on building one, I'd be more than happy to do a side-by-side comparison with the UXL and 5400.

+1

24" × 45" × 45" is just too deep for me ATM. I could lay a few of them down under my screen, but I'd almost be able to prop my feet up on them when I reclined…lol

I still can't get over the simple math that MK pointed out… One GH has roughly the same output as 4 sealed LMS-U's from 16-40Hz. Was that it? Can't find the quote at this very moment...
