Philips DVDR3537H/37 error code u56

I came home and the DVD recorder would not boot up. I have turned off the power for 15 minutes, it still would not boot up.

The error code is U56. Does anyone know what that mean ? Is my hard drive dead ? The unit is 5 years old.
