Upgrade from athena point 5

Been a long time since I have checked the audio forums but I think it is time for an upgrade. This forum saved me from HTIB in 2005 and I ended up with athena point 5s and a dayton sub. Now that I am upgrading to an HDMI receiver (denon 1713) I am thinking about upgrading the speakers too.

I have tried looking for options but it seems as if most of the threads are for floorstanding front speakers and as much as I would like them, I have limited space and need to stick with bookshelf size speakers all around.

Speakers are used for 95% movies and gaming, 5% music. Can anyone recommend something in the $5-600 range that would be a clear upgrade from the Athena Point 5's?

A clear upgrade would be subjective - however, I would prefer these >

I would look at the HTD Level Two, bookshelf and center speakers

However, for a little bit more - my favorite is Cambridge Audio >
And the bass goes down to 60 hz

This is the center

Thanks Jim, I will check those out.

When you say you don't know if it is a clear upgrade is that because the point 5's are better than I think or because there aren't many decent options in that price range?

I am saying it depends on the individual - I have owned some Athena speakers before,
and I consder HTD and Cambridge better performers.

How would the speakers you recommended compare to the Energy cb-10, infinity p163, and paradigm atoms? Those were the names I kept seeing over and over so they were stuck in my head.

I have not listened to the CB-10, and I am not drawn to them - and Stereophile was
not impressed with them. >> I still prefer HTD and Cambridge over the Primus and
entry level Paradigm and PSB speakers.

However, the Infinity is still a nice option for movies and games.

Spent some time reading the "floored by s30" thread and they seem like a good fit although I am still tempted by the p163 for $60 each. At least I have narrowed it down to two choices. Tough decision when there isn't anywhere local where I can go listen to them.

I would hate to think I am upgrading for no reason, would there be a noticeable difference in power or quality compared to the athena point 5's?

I hear that there is a thread about the Cambridge.

I also used Cambridge for Home Theater

Power or loudness is subjective, and based on your needs. The Cambridge can get
loud for me in a 20 x 30 room - you seem to have a smaller room. > Quality wise,
I will hands down take them over the Athena and Infinity.

As far as loudness (if that is your main concern), then the Infinity will play a little
louder.

This is another subjective review here.

Your option, and your call.

So if I went with four of the S 30s, and the s 50 center, would you recommend replacing the 10 inch Dayton sub also?

Yes - however, it depends on your budget.
