Happy with my HT setup. This will probably change when I move to a house with a dedicated room but probably far down the line.

I would like to upgrade my music system sub to the Velo DD10+ to get the nice EQ functions and higher quality driver.

I don't keep receipts for the reason I would cry if I ever added up how much my theater project has cost me over the years.


Ignorance is bliss. I was content with my $300.00 Sony sub I bought ten years ago.....................then I found this forum and I've been chasing audio nirvana, and my money down the drain ever since.

Yes, forums are well known for punching a hole squarely in the middle of rational fiscal thought.

I few days ago I upgraded the drivers in our subwoofer's box. Now, I have cables and microphone stands all over the living room as I measure and play with the room's acoustics.

(I spent three hours yesterday trying to figure out what computer switch needed to be flipped in order to get REW to listen to the microphone. Ended up needing to unplug and replug in the USB powered Phantom Power Supply. D'oh!)

"Honey, you can't sit there right now, I'm taking room readings."

"Can you hold it down in the kitchen, I'm trying to get a reading here."

"I'm sorry, can you wait on the laundry, I'm trying to get some readings here."

"Don't worry, hopefully I'll do a wrap by three."

I saw this post and had to offer my 2 cents worth !!!My journey so far with a little back and forth over the years started really in the late 90's and there was not nearly as much information via internet for research and I only stumbled upon this hobby by walking into a small local audio store so I picked up what subwoofer sounded good with sales suggestion and went from there. Looking back I was running my first sub off a yamaha receiver that only had the bass and treble controls cranked heavy of course and a ton of the simulated DSP environments essentially making for a big boom box like sound when I was demoing for people great dvd's back then like Independence day lol!!

Damn this site. See what happens. Was just 3 weeks ago I thought that having 2 subs was completely insane. Now here I am about to take delivery of subs #-4-8 on Friday.

ehhh, don't blame the site :P Audio gear holds value pretty well, if you ever change your mind you can sell it all back for like 70%!

Doesn't help that Gorilla83 is 5 minutes from me. If I didn't hear his system, and especially the subs, I'd still have my 2 Caps and that's it.

Yup. Been there done that on more than one occasion. Horsepower is another expensive hobby.

Journey
I started off about a year ago with buying a good receiver and piecing together a small system for computer and TV use, mostly some polk stuff, hence the PSW 125. It was a good system, and fit for my bedroom in the apartment I shared with a buddy of mine. Fast forward about 8 months and I started working full time, was adding and subtracting equipment the more I learned. I found the Outlaw on ebay for a good price, plus it had good reviews so I bought it and loved it. I still do, but I also added some other new stuff and the subwoofer department was starting to fall behind. In looking at a subwoofer made by a small company I saw the driver was made my Pierce Audio Products so I ended up ordering one and built my first DIY sub. It turned out great, although it's still in need of a little finishing love. Performance wise, it came out better than I hoped it with and I no longer felt like I was a little light bass wise. However, ever since seeing a dual opposed build here on AVS, learning about the Seaton Submersive, and seeing the new Funk Audio subwoofer I've wanted to try a dual opposed. Which leads me to my next step, which I hope to be a dual opposed with TC Sounds LMS Ultra subs.

Lessons Learned
If I had to do it over, I would forgo both of the purchased subs, and some other equipment. I'd go DIY right from the start because the performance is so good for the money. DIY subs can be much harder to integrate into a system, but the benefits are sky high.

I'm there, satisfied but it took 8 18" drivers to get me there. 2 CHT 18.2 and 4 CHT 18.1. Not dialed in yet but still sounds and even feels awesome.

Spot on fellas! And even more so now with these Dayton HO's & SI drivers. Talk about bang for the buck!!

Unless it is made by elemental designs. Then you cannot sell it for anything... (at least in my current experience!)

Not yet bro. The 3 of us wanna get together and do an SI (dual opposed) vs HO (dual opposed) vs Submersive HP vs LMS (single) comparison. Its just that finding a date when everyone is available is proving to be a beeatch!

We'll get it done though....... at some point.
