I just received an ad flyer in the mail from Cox, stating among other things "And by the end of June '09 we will have 58 FREE HD channels." I realize these things are printed way in advance, but I currently count 53 FREE HD channels. I wonder what they promised and haven't yet delivered.

they are probably counting the premium hd(4) in the 58, 1 off ain't bad.

I just got a response back that said 57 was correct and more is comming, but they wouldn't give anymore info.

Is TV Caller ID working for anyone on their DVR?

I have 2 DVR and 2 non-DVR boxes. Caller ID is working on the non-DVRs but is no longer working on the DVRs. It was working on the DVRs at first.
mine's working not all the time on the dvr also. how many numbers does your boxes hold? our dvr holds 10, but the regular box holds 20.

Noticed on their website the weather webcast is 4:3 but with HD sidebars. Wondering if the news tonight at 10 will be in HD or widescreen (or if I missed it and they already did widescreen news earlier today). New graphics seem to have debuted within the last day too.

Confirming: KMTV is the first Omaha station to have 16x9 widescreen news.

Wouldn't have guessed it months ago but within the last few weeks it seemed they'd be first.

It definitely isn't HD. It is 16X9 widescreen. The 10 p.m. news had all of the studio shots and some of the stories in wide screen, weather graphics were not.

I wouldn't have either. It will be interesting to see what happens next. Both KETV and WOWT have recently updated their graphics packages. KOLN in Lincoln, a Gray sister station is obviously broadcasting 16X9 widescreen news. KCCI the Hearst owned station in Des Moines is broadcasting 16X9 and KMBC in Kansas City has been in HD for almost two years. There have also been the KETV promos popping up in HD. I don't have any inside knowledge, but I wouldn't be surprised to see either or both KETV and WOWT make the switch to some sort of 16X9 very soon.

i personally believe KOLN/KGIN that studio/field shots are actually hd, however, their graphics package isn't quite HD yet...i am just waiting for them for to be actually completely HD...i believe they will actually be the first completely HD Newcast before any Lincoln or Omaha station due to the progress they have shown and the fact their station manager has said they want to stay on top

I haven't seen KOLN since the switch. The article on their website is somewhat ambiguous about the subject. zhttp://www.kolnkgin.com/home/headlines/48111437.html (z was added before the link intentionally, because I don't have enough posts to post links yet). That article mentions "widescreen" "16X9" but no mention of HD.

That being said, here is a recent post from the "Is your local news in HD?" Thread.

Add WIFR-DT, Rockford, IL (CBS, 23.1) to this list (1080i). They called it "widescreen" when their in-studio news cameras were in HD, but their field cameras and weather computer was not. Now ALL of it is HD, and they are correctly calling it as such. Looks fantastic.

WIFR is a Gray station just like KOLN/KGIN, so they might be undertaking a similar process.

Out of the Omaha stations, KETV still has by far the largest parent corporation when you consider the larger Hearst network. They also continue to put out HD promos, most recently their back to school drive. Like I said earlier, I don't have any inside info on this, but I have a feeling both KETV and WOWT are close to making the jump to at least 16X9.

I don't know how many people in Omaha used this feature, but it was a very useful and free feature that is now gone.

TVGOS was a signal that was sent out by PBS analog stations. I have a Sony DHG HDD250, which is a HD DVR for OTA signals. This, along with other OTA HD DVR's and some TV's used the TVGOS signal for guide information. It could take the PBS signal and give me show information for all the local channels 8 days out. I only watch locals anyway, so I wasn't paying for any kind of Sat or Cable service, still getting HD, and able to record in HD.

Unfortunatly, after the digital switch over, PBS has decided to drop this signal. In other markets, CBS has been designated for picking up this signal and sending it along with their primary signal. I have contacted our local affiliate and have been told that there are no plans presently for CBS to pick up the TVGOS signal.

If there are other that have been affected by this, please contact them and express that you would like this service. I can not stand the thought of paying $50+ a month for the priveledge of watching my locals in HD and being able to record them for another "rental" fee. I was very happy with my truely free TV viewing.

This guy has been very punctual in getting back to me and Im sure he'd like to know that there are others who would appreciate getting back their TVGOS signal.

Thanks

My non-DVRs each had 40 calls on them.

Well, KETV seems to have finally shut down analog channel 7 on the nightlight signal, but KLKN-8 still doesn't come in.
KMTV now has widescreen weather overlays. The graphics are not HD, so it looks like the CBS HD signal gets downconverted to widescreen SD (with some faint horizontal artifacts). Still, it beats having to cut down to 4:3 like they used to (and KPTM still does during network programming). Widescreen SD is still an improvement.

I sent an email to Scott about TVGOS, and have previously contacted CBS Omaha, CBS Lincoln as well as PBS, but never received a single response from any of them. According with the unofficial "Rabbit ears" TVGOS list your closest station, that transmits TVGOS, would be KMEG 14 out of Sioux City. I am able to receive this station in Lincoln but cannot verify they are sending the guide, since I currently don't have TVGOS device.

Does KOLN carry it, or can you not receive KOLN?

I can receive KOLN, but cannot tell if it's carrying the data, since I don't have TVGOS device. Maybe somebody on this forum can confirm/deny availability of TVGOS on KOLN?
It's only a matter of time before 10/11 goes HD with newscasts. They are probably following that other Gray station's example. On DirecTV's SD version of KOLN from the 72.5 satellite, they now broadcast with black letterboxes, rather than crop the WS image.

Peeve mode=ON... Billie! Dude! Nobody is paying you for each use of the "Enter" key. 4 lines to type the word "is" is a waste of space. I wouldn't comment if it was one instance, but you do it with every post.

Dish Network is now broadcasting KOLN HD/widescreen programming letterboxed rather than cropped as well on their SD locals package.

Ditto. Also very much aware of the analog programming still on 24 and 61, plus that 48 is returning soon. Don't have to be reminded of it in every other post...

same for time warner in lincoln, however, i don't know if the color bars are still on like usual since the royals are playing right now (and fsn has always shown the royals in hd, but that was it for programming on the HD channel)

I guess they are finally going full time on the FSN HD feed here.
