It would be via the Internet rather than as a TV channel. Where did you find out about that?
A buddy of mine told me and then I confirmed it with a CSR this morning.

Or for me (though it could be that I won't be eligible for ESPN360 with just a basic Cox Internet plan).

the way I read it is it's for all speed tiers for ESPN 360 not just the top two.

also talk of internet speed increases.

you are right. sorry

speaking of MHz: got a email from them recently and

they said in the email:

As a non-commercial independent broadcaster, our channel is traditionally featured on non-commercial, independent or public broadcasters interested in becoming an affiliate of MHz Worldview.

We haven’t received an inquiry from NET,

but we do appreciate your suggestion of KMTV (and their available multicast channel) and will be sure to inquire with them.

If you haven’t done so already, it’s helpful for viewers to send programming requests to channels, as well.

Apologize if this has ever been covered before, but while I watching the Steeler-Bengal game yesterday, I noticed numerous times where the volume would noticably go up or down; I believe sometimes there was an audible click associated with it. I have noticed this while viewing numerous programs, but it was especially annoying yesterday. These changes were not associated with the show going to commercial, either. For the purpose of this problem, my cable box is connected directly, via HDMI, to the Panny plasma set I have--no AVR was involved. Has anyone else experienced this during a show? TIA.

Was it related to the display of the station ID at the top and bottom of the hour? I noticed it early in the Chiefs game that channel 3 blipped to a "dumbed-down" signal to show the station ID, then reverted back to full HD with a noticable change in audio a few seconds later. I think it's because their station graphics ... while 16:9 widescreen ... aren't HD.

I can't honestly say that it corresponded with that yesterday, but I have experienced that on other channels where the picture is dumbed down, too, but I don't think to 4:3--just smaller. That's irritating as heck when the volume jumps like that. Anyone know when or if that will be fixed at some point or will it be a byproduct of not using all digital (read HD) content and won't be fixed until then?

This also happens on OTA or Sat. on my setup. HD stations drop the sound more on HD no matter if it is on antenna or Sat. signals. It usually has a pop sound to it when it changes. SD has a louder audio volume than HD.

It happened again last night while watching my CBS comedy shows (when the station logo was shown)--when it reverted back to HD, I noticed it started out lower than it was before the increase in volume, but then gradually made it to the original volume level (as diagnosed by my ears) I had it set for HD. I sure hope they fix this phenomena in a hurry.

Email from KMTV's Scot Krayenhagen regarding the audio pops:
Quote:

I appreciate your comments. Indeed, you are correct. As KMTV is broadcasting in Widescreen and builds towards full HD, the equipment involved is being replaced at a huge cost. One of the essential pieces yet to be replaced is the graphics systems. Because we are talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars, it must be spread out over time.

Because CBS is delivered with Dolby sound in HD, our only option was to downconvert during CBS for a few seconds to add graphics. This allows viewers to continue watching in Widescreen. Unfortunately, the audio must jump to stereeo for the moment.

I have timed this carefully so there is no disruption or loss in video or audio content, only a mild pop now and then. This is only audible if listening through a surround sound system. Some systems respond louder then others.

We are working to elimate this altogether but for the meantime this is the best compromise we can do.

Are my eyes deceiving me, or does it look like KPTM is at least testing HD in the studio? It seems to me I can see a distinct difference in quality between their in-studio production and the "on-site" video. Also, they had a blank "block" next to their logo that looks like it was ready for "HD" to be added.

Am I just imagining things, or is there something to this?

They've had limited HD capabilities in studio for a while. "Heartland Proud" was in HD this spring (even with a KPTM HD logo) -- see http://www.joelwnelson.com/images/st...%20-%20172.jpg and http://www.joelwnelson.com/images/st...%20-%20173.jpg.

Does anyone know why The BC/FSU game was clocked out on ESPN on DirecTV? We had to watch the Alternate feed that was most definitely not HD. Ch 206 and 73 were both blacked out, despite the coverage map telling me we would get the game. Thanks.

Actually, looking at the coverage map, there's a note indicating that Penn St. vs. Illinois was carried on ESPN HD but blacked out in the blue territory (including Nebraska). It said to see FSU vs. BC in the blue territory, please tune to your SD ESPN channel.

I didn't look, but I thought I saw it on the ESPN alternate channel on 210 or 211. I was struggling to find the Texas Tech/New Mexico game. For some reason, Fox Sports Midwest and Fox Sports Kansas City were blacked out, and DirecTV put the game on 652, marked as DirectTV sports. Very confusing and I didn't find it until after kickoff.

cox finally droping HBO channel 15 on December 3 no premiums on analog.
Yeah now that I look at it, looks like only SD. They the hell do they do that? I'm so sick of watching crappy Big 10 games locally.

does that mean another blank channel that will never be used

or will KOHA 48 aka the Daystar network will be airing on channel 15

(assuming Daystar ever airs on KOHA

cause channels 13 and 20 and 61 and 69 and 70 and soon 15 have nothing on them

It's only a blank channel if you're still watching analog. Otherwise on the digital boxes those numbers just get skipped. I know channel 20 carries a number of encrypted program streams for the digital tiers (you don't see anything on 20, but the channel is still being used for that purpose). If 13 and others aren't yet being used to carry digital programs, they probably will soon -- making way for new digital and HD program offerings.

I bet 15 carries HBO 300 and other HBO channels. so like Joel posted channel 15 will be blank on analog come December 3rd.

if you have a digital box it's all digital, I have no info on any more channel moves, but you can bet there will be no more channels added to the analog tier anytime soon.

Just noticed yesterday that The Weather Channel HD, Fox Business Network HD, and a few others just went live on Time Warner yesterday. Weather HD looks pretty sharp, though as expected the local forecast is like the version on Dish (and DirecTV?) where it just displays a national loop of selected cities.

Would love to see Weather HD (as well as ESPNU HD and ESPNNEWS HD, two other HD channels Time Warner has) here in Omaha, though is it still the case that Cox is holding off on The Weather Channel until they can do local forecasts in HD? I'd rather just see it in HD now and know to tune to channel 43 (or any local channel) for local info!

Can anone tell me if KPTM HD is down tonight? I just got done mounting my antenna outside and getting it hooked up. It was in the attic before and now I am getting a stronger signal on 43 than I was before but for some reason I cannot tune it.

I tuned in 43 on my HDHomeRun Config software and I am getting about 73-77% signal strength, 0% signal quality, 0% symbol quality..
