noticed that WOWT is back to a temporary set for a week for "technical reasons"... wonder if they are also converting to HD news since KOLN/KGIN already has and both stations are owned by the same company. anyone else notice it or know anything about it?!

Yeah...the baseball game this afternoon ran late, so everything was running about 45 minutes late. Unfortunately, that really screwed up my DVR of House...hope maybe they'll re-run it some other time this week?

Does anyone have any information on COX Omaha getting new HD channels in the near future. I have to say I've been disappointed with lack of additions recently. I don't understand why they aren't even able to keep up with the other COX markets. Thanks my rant is over now lol.

Cards66, DirecTV has tons of HD... just not Versus (where the Huskers will be playing on Halloween )

I have to agree with you that's its frustrating that Cox Omaha has only added 2 hd channels since the spring, its clear that with Cox being the only show in Omaha that Cox is not proactive in adding more hd channels, if Omaha had Fios,Cox would have 80 to 100 channels in Omaha. It time we all start calling Cox and the city council saying Cox needs to become a first tier hd provider or get out!! OMAHA DESERVES BETTER!!!!

It could be a lot worse. I was out in the Denver area last month and the Comcast (suburbs - Aurora) digital cable system had significantly less HD offerings than Omaha. Time Warner in Lincoln is finally getting quite a few channels but for a while significantly lagged Omaha. We actually had it pretty good for a while; though now I admit we're losing some ground in comparison to other areas. I'm not a Cox apologist by any means; just from other areas I've seen, I still think Cox-Omaha is above average. But there's definitely still room for improvement.

I noticed in one of the Topeka, KS threads that the COX Kansas area is to get more HD channels on Nov. 15? to bring their total to around 70. I realize that Omaha is not the worst place for HD offerings but when you compare other COX markets or other towns similar in size I really believe Omaha is a couple steps behind. I know if I don't like it I should switch, its just not that easy though.

if you notice also other cox areas announce when they are adding channels sooner than Omaha does

by the looks of it December might be the earliest we see more channels since they have to give 30 days notice.

yea time warner is up to 63 HD channels (includes two on demand channels and the premiums) with another 15-20 coming in the next month or so according to the paper. finally TWC is catching up and may even surpass cox here in a little bit which is finally some good news!

That's not surprising that TWC(Lincoln) has passed Cox (Omaha)in hd channel offerings, Cox for the most part is a second tier provider very slow to make changes, and additions. I'm really tired of hearing bandwidth is in short supply, Cox Omaha should have upgraded their system 5 years ago, Hd did not get here overnight! They promised 80 hd channels by the end of last year and we will not see 80 by the end of this year, at Cox's current pace of adding hd channels Omaha will get to a 100 by 2014 (Maybe) Does anyone know if Omaha will ever get Verizon Fios?

They promised(said) 100 not 80 HD channels

Cox will add channels. As far as Verizon expanding that won't happen given that they won't go into the midwest and step on Qwest's toes.

Unless Verizon decides to buy Qwest. But even that would require significant upgrades in fiber infrastructure...

Does anyone get the "free" HBO with digital cable? I'm thinking about making the jump to digital especially if they are pulling the analog hbo signal, but am curious of the "free" hbo was just the analog channel or if it also includes the digital or HD version.

Hmm Verizon buying Qwest. That would be a huge merger and not sure the Feds would sign off on that.

WOWT has gone 16X9 as of the 10 p.m. newscast tonight. It looks to be HD, but I'm not positive. They are having huge technical issues (like losing the first 10 minutes) during the newscast though. Studio shots and weather are 16X9 all of the stories and anything from the field is still 4X3. Due to all of the issues no mention of said changes were mentioned on the broadcast.

Thanks aj. What is the current HD (non DVR) stb in Omaha?
Up at 6 am and watching Daybreak on WOWT and it is HD alright except for the field shots.

Is WOWT broadcasting true HD or just 16x9 (anamorphic) like KMTV? I can't tell for sure... it looks sharper than KMTV, but not quite as sharp as KOLN.

Not on my TV. I swear channel 7 in SD looked sharper last night than WOWT in widescreen. Graphics frequently looked distorted, and the anchors looked fuzzy as well. This morning was slightly better on 6, but I think KMTV looks sharper overall.

Plus, all field reports are shot in SD; they haven't converted that equipment to 16:9 yet.

Do you have an LCD or an interlaced/CRT set? I've noticed interlaced SD looks better on a CRT. On an LCD it's noticeably inferior (7 looks really bad on my LCD set). When in Lincoln, I've observed SD channels like 7 and 8 look sharper on HD CRTs than 10's HD, while of course on a progressive-scan LCD it's the other way around.

It is high definition per WOWT.

I agree. WOWT is broadcasting in HD and dolby digital. Not sure why they would need that for a news channel, but it's there.

Anybody else notice KLKN's new set and *some* new graphics? Wonder if they're thinking about making the switch? Anybody heard anything?
