several of the QAM channels have moved around

channel 122 is on 19.7 now

and

Scola used to be 100.11 but is now on 74.11

speaking of scola: cox should add Channel One Russia or SBTN to the digital channel lineup. even the cox cable companies in Kansas (i.e. Topeka and Wichita and Iola) have a foreign language channel that isnt in spanish.

maybe it time for Cox Cable of Omaha to give SBTN or Channel 1 Russia a chance as a digital channel

It starts Jan 1st, but Omaha is not on the list.

seriously, no one watches 3.2 or 6.2 (maybe it time they get some good subchannels). I wish Omaha would btw get Cool TV again. loved that on 3.2

I can really understand the problem for Cox, even with volume purchase, the cost of buying a large quantity of set top boxes to rent out at ten bucks a month does not make economic sense. How many NEW customers is this going to bring in? I am just thrilled to have what I am getting right now. Many people are getting nothing at all. I hope that Cox would offer Discovery HD and I would gladly pay the $ 5 dollars a month. Cox does not offer NBC or PBS in this area. Just my two cents worth..

Where did you get your info Cox has more HD then that they also rent HD boxes and HD/DVR boxes

It appears that the FCC has greenlighted the Assignment of License of KSNB to Gray. I guess we'll wait for what Gray will do on Channel 4.

1)
I hope KSNB can go full power. Can anyone in Lincoln actually get this channel today?

2)
I talked to KFXL to see when they were moving to channel 15 and going HIgh Power. They claimed there were never any plans. They said there are no plans to do this not sure what I was talking about. Yet they paid someone a lot of money to fill a Legal FCC request that got approved by the FCC so they could do just that a year ago. They must be having money issues now, could be an other bankruptcy or buy out station? Can anyone get this channel out side of Lincoln today?

1) KSNB's Dh4 transmitter is not on the air yet, as far as I can tell.
The low power transmitter in Linclon is not viewable from very far away.

2) KFXL's low power transmitter is viewable some 20 miles north of Lincoln.

When you say Dh4 transmitter, do you mean the transmitter near York?
Should have been CH 4 transmitter, but yes.
The low power transmitter in Lincoln is on CH 18.
(In the real world, nomatter what it says on the screen).

Cox Omaha is going to use SDV.

Based on this <http://img.lineupui.silicondust.com/snapshots/01/snapshot_40479901.jpg> it looks like KFXL (and thus presumably NTV) finally has the ability to do HD in-house, at least for commercials and promos. Haven't been in the viewing area during a newscast in a few months so maybe others have seen more steps that way, but maybe HD newscasts are finally around the corner.

NTV/KFXL have been using HD overlays and graphics for a few months but I have no idea when they plan to go full HD for local news broadcasts and commercials.

Well, looks like we have the answer for Channel 4. All of you who said MyNetworkTV as the network affiliate on KSNB, pat yourselves on the back.

http://www.1011now.com/home/headlines/1011-Central-Nebraska-Debuts-April-1-193103831.html

10/11 Central Nebraska Debuts April 1 on Channel 4

10/11 is excited to announce its acquisition of KSNB-TV, a full-power television station broadcasting on Channel 4 in the Lincoln market.

On or about April 1st, 10/11 will re-launch KSNB as 10/11 Central Nebraska, a high-definition broadcast channel focusing on the needs and interests of the greater Central Nebraska region. 10/11 Central Nebraska will be available in HD on DirecTV, Dish Network, and most local systems, primarily on channel 4.

10/11 Central Nebraska will be available in HD on DirecTV, Dish Network, and most local systems, primarily on channel 4.
“10/11’s loyal viewers all over the state of Nebraska have provided a powerful response to our increase in local programming. We felt we needed to start an entirely new full-power, high-definition station in order to better serve them,” said 10/11 President Jason Effinger.

10/11 Central Nebraska will launch the area’s first high-definition live 5:30pm and 9pm newscasts. Both newscasts will be devoted exclusively to the news, weather, and sports that matter most to the people of Central Nebraska.

“It is our goal to find the best way to give the people of Nebraska the local news they need. This new station is evidence of our commitment to bring more local choices to the people of Grand Island, Hastings, Kearney, and beyond,” said 10/11 News Director Sue Ramsett.

10/11 Central Nebraska programming will feature locally-produced programming such as Pure Nebraska, 10/11 PrepZone Weekly, and Star City Buzz. The lineup also will include popular primetime network programming from MyTV such as House, Monk and Law & Order: SVU, and syndicated favorites such as 30 Rock, Frasier, and Scrubs.

KSNB is officially under Gray's control. Here's it's consummation note, posted this morning.
Now, it will be interesting to see if they will carry Antenna TV on 10.2/11.2 or keep it on Channel 4 at 4.2. Or will they replace MyTv airing on 11.2/10.2 with something else? Let the rumors fly! smile.gif
post #9319 of 9406

I'm guessing the only change will be a HD simulcast of MyTV on 4.1, and a renaming of "Nebraska Central News at 9" to "10-11 Central Nebraska".  Keeping MyTV on 10.2 and 11.2 in SD is needed to keep MyTV's reach around the state via their translator network, mainly in rural northern and southwest Nebraska so the Central NE coverage remains applicable, so I wouldn't anticipate any major shifts in programming there.  Antenna TV on 4.2 and 18.2.

I'm guessing MyTV HD will also be on 18.1 in Lincoln.  Since Gray also got KWAZ-LP, perhaps they might convert that to digital and operate it as a UHF fill-in for 10.1 and 10.2 like KLKN does with channel 31, for indoor antenna viewers in Lincoln?

Interesting idea about leaving MyTV on 10.2 but I thought the new KSNB was only 10 miles to the west of the channel 10 tower. Would that mean nearly the same coverage area? If true then there would be no need to leave MyTV on 10.2
I can see them leaving it on 11.2 so they pickup western nebraska.
Sure hope they put Antenna TV on 10.2

That's correct, though that 10 miles matters for Lincoln viewers, as well as the northern Nebraska translators that relay KOLN rather than KGIN.  Keeping MyTV on 10.2 would also mean MyTV remaining available in Newport, O'Neill, and Neligh.   Antenna TV on 4.2 and 18.2 will still blanket the area from Lincoln to Grand Island well.

MINNESOTA/NEBRASKA/WISCONSIN:

The FCC has cancelled the licenses of a half dozen Upper Midwest low-power TV stations which formerly operated in the discontinued portion of the TV band (channels 52 to 69) but have not yet returned to the air on different channels.

The stations were required to vacate their old channels by the end of 2011, and since none has constructed facilities on new channels, the FCC says they've run afoul of a federal law that says licenses must be deleted when stations are silent for more than a year.

The affected stations include Reg TV Americas de Omaha's KAZO-LP/57 (Omaha), Hall County's K56FC (Grand Island), of which had not activated construction permits to move to new channels.(2/22/2013)

btw:

too bad Lukken Communications hasnt bought KAZO and aired something on 18.1 (Lukken bought Low powered stations) in Sioux Falls and Sioux City and other cities (see) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luken_Communications#Broadcast_television_stations

I mean KAZO 18.1 would have made a good station to air PBJ http://watchpbj.com/ and Tuff TV http://www.tufftv.com in Omaha

http://www.northpine.com reports:

Gray Television's KOLN/10 (Lincoln) will begin operating KSNB-TV/4 (Superior) on or about April 1, the station announced Monday.

As reported here earlier this month, the FCC approved a "failing station" waiver allowing Gray to buy KSNB in a $1.25 million deal.

Gray's announcement confirmed that KSNB will carry most or all of the programming that currently airs on KOLN's "MyTV" subchannel, including half-hour newscasts at 5:30 and 9 p.m., rebranded as "10/11 Central Nebraska."

(KOLN, a primary CBS affiliate, is relayed on KGIN/11 [Grand Island] in central Nebraska.)

KSNB will be carried on cable and satellite providers across the Lincoln-Tri Cities market. (2/25/2013)

That guy goes around posting much the same stuff on numerous message boards and industry news sites at pretty much any opportunity, and has also PMed people here about it (including me). He seems to have an axe to grind against Pappas Telecasting; beyond that it is pure speculation, as if there were a totalitarian authority far more powerful than the FCC that could just line up and arrange station sales, affiliation swaps, cable channel position, and subchannel content.  I saw that comment and some cross-posts elsewhere but tuned it out as soon as I saw the "ought to be allowed to acquire" line...

I wouldn't put much, if any weight at all, on that speculation.

Based on the FCC 28dBu contour map, reception in Kearney would be pretty hard -- 15-20 miles outside the expected coverage area.  According to TVFool you don't have line of sight (double edge diffraction) and would need an antenna mounted fairly high off the ground. If Central Nebraska, if the antenna is right for channel 4, it should be possible to get KSNB if you can also get KLKN. But at 23.5 KW (full licensed power) it's probably not viewable except with a rooftop antenna in Lincoln, Grand Island, or Hastings either.

It would be nice if they could get some decent sub channels in central nebraska. I was getting antenna tv on 4.2 some morning and was hoping once they went full power we would get it. Instead they switch to mynet?....who wants that?.....antenna, me, retro?
