Now, though, practically all of the wifi networks I can receive at home have "myqwest####" SSIDs so subscriber-wise it's definitely caught on. Presumably all they'd need to do in my neighborhood (north Benson area) is add the Prism hardware itself at neighborhood terminals/DSLAMs, as the fiber has been here for a while anyway.  The work this year may be more in west Omaha getting it caught up, as many areas east of 680 and especially east of 72nd went from 1.5 Mbps (if even that) to 40/20 availability almost two years ago.  In West Omaha, even this year I noticed in checking for others that the TCONL cable service was all that was being offered Internet-wise from CenturyLink. That's what has to be replaced.  Now, I wouldn't be surprised if Prism is offered first in TeleChoice areas, but then again it would be relatively easy to fire it up east of 680 as the necessary fiber infrastructure is already established here.  Having predominantly overhead lines has helped considerably with rollout, though.
I checked after I saw this and my area is still at 1.5 Mb. I'm just a few blocks north of 105th and Center, just east of I680. I think the problem for my area is our central office is north of 90th and Dodge (I think) which makes my area a long distance from the central office. Hopefully, we'll get high speed eventually because the workers I talked to made it sound like they were at least working on it but I'm not holding my breath.

Many Century link trucks have been working all day for the last 3 days on the main boxed in each neighborhood along CornHusker in Papillion. I wonder if they are working on upgrades or prepping for it? Most trucks look to be contracted out from other cities. They sit in chairs all day working with the wires.
I cant tell if there is fiber there.
They are working so long that they have tents setup over the boxes.

Thanks for that, I will be all over that when I can get it!

I wonder if they will fix the Prism issue reported in other cities that have it.

The issue is you really can not watch or record 4 HD channels at once as advertised. Its more like 2 HD and 2 SD, and if your surfing the web watching movies on the PC or ipad it may cut it down even more, maybe 1-2 HD if your lucky.

The issue reported is they are NOT running fiber to the house. The are running fiber to the neighbor hood hub, then using the existing copper wires to the house.
I found out that is what all those guys working on the hub boxes are doing- getting ready for Prism.

The root cause is telephone copper wires can only carry so much bandwidth even if you combine the old phone line one and phone line two copper wires.
Google did it right, with fiber to each house.

Sure hope Century Link changes there mind on the design. In these modern days people watch HD over SD if the channel is there. Maybe this is why in the Prism channel guide they hide all the HD channels way up in the 1,000 channel range?
Maybe they could run Fiber just to houses that need the 4 HD channels and super high speed web?

Today with One Dish Hopper HD DVR you can record 7 HD channels at once (count one OTA tuner and 4 with they Prime Time all day long tuner for 7 24x7)
With DirecTV you can record 5 HD at once with the Genie.

I'm pretty sure given the 1 GB/S internet speeds and the fact they are digging through yards in West Omaha that they are actually laying fiber to the houses here. This differs from other markets and is basically an experiment to see if the additional expenses required for fiber to the house lead to more revenue due to being able to offer faster speeds.

I can assure you they are running new cables to the house in West Omaha...the old copper wiring was abandoned in the mid 90's when TeleChoice was first implemented.

I'd have to dig into my yard to figure out whether it's fiber or not, but I can't imagine why CenturyLink would expend the effort to lay anything other than fiber to the house.

No BBC America in HD?! Not a good sign. Have been a Cox customer for 12 years (with a 2 year stint with Dish) and miss the HD versio I had with Dish. I have been pretty happy with Cox otherwise. In addition to the Cox DVR I have a HDHomerun Prime w/ a cablecard and older HDhomerun for plenty of concurrent recording. Does anyone know if CenturyLink offers cablecards? If not. I might try them for internet only.

when does it start? I wonder if they will have FSNKC on the FSNMW channel when the Royals play? What are the prices?

You won't be able to use a Cablecard device on the prism service as they use the same software and hardware that At&t Uverse uses which does not allow for Cablecards as the service is 100% IP based and no QAM signals present.

Given Cox has the KC version, I'd say odds are pretty good CenturyLink's will be the same. Pricing for existing Prism markets here.

Just in case anyone is wondering if KSNB is actually on with a VHF channel 4 transmitter - I saw them this afternoon by sporadic-E skip in Michigan.

A week or two agao I got a letter from CenturyLink saying that within 30 days I will be contacted to schedule the installation of fiber to my house and they would contact me prior to that. My son called me at work today and said that someone was marking utilities in our backyard. I don't have the letter with me so I justed called CenturyLink to see if it was them that called for the marking. Even though it was a 402 #, I got a call center and the guy had no idea what I was talking about. In fact he tried to set me up with DirecTV. I know this is a pilot project so it's not surprising that most of the call center people don't know anything about it. I'll just have to look at the letter when I get home and maybe there is some contact info there. Has anyone in West O had any fiber installed recently?

They ran the fiber to my house a few weeks ago, and even started the process of installing the new router in the basement on Saturday.

Did you call 691-1600 or another number with CenturyLink?

I know my neighborhood will switch phone service to the new fiber in early June. No word on when TV and internet service will be available, though. Last word I had heard was that CLink employees were the first test customers, starting this month. I suspect probably August for most customers.
