I checked after I saw this and my area is still at 1.5 Mb. I'm just a few blocks north of 105th and Center, just east of I680. I think the problem for my area is our central office is north of 90th and Dodge (I think) which makes my area a long distance from the central office. Hopefully, we'll get high speed eventually because the workers I talked to made it sound like they were at least working on it but I'm not holding my breath.Originally Posted by JoelWNelson
Some parts of Omaha have actually had the fiber for a couple years now with the VDSL2 40/20 service. I got mine installed back in the summer of 2011 and the installer said I was among the first in the neighborhood. Now, though, practically all of the wifi networks I can receive at home have "myqwest####" SSIDs so subscriber-wise it's definitely caught on. Presumably all they'd need to do in my neighborhood (north Benson area) is add the Prism hardware itself at neighborhood terminals/DSLAMs, as the fiber has been here for a while anyway. The work this year may be more in west Omaha getting it caught up, as many areas east of 680 and especially east of 72nd went from 1.5 Mbps (if even that) to 40/20 availability almost two years ago. In West Omaha, even this year I noticed in checking for others that the TCONL cable service was all that was being offered Internet-wise from CenturyLink. That's what has to be replaced. Now, I wouldn't be surprised if Prism is offered first in TeleChoice areas, but then again it would be relatively easy to fire it up east of 680 as the necessary fiber infrastructure is already established here. Having predominantly overhead lines has helped considerably with rollout, though.
