Budget is $1400

Room is 20x12x12

I need a new sub ASAP now that my Epic Phoenix died and have email Epik since mid Sept. until now I have not gotten a response. mad.gif

I have been reading all these posts and they all seem to be top contenders for my price range. If you guys have any other subs I am willing to look at them as long as they are not more than $1400. My original budget was $1000 but quickly went up.

Please help me choose and if anyone has some useful link that can help me make my decision please feel free to post. Can't wait to feel the BASS. Thanks fellas!

Two PSA XV-15.

Otherwise, your poll is weighted towards the Rythmik since it is beefier and more expensive, but still within budget.

Yes there were. The write up of the HSU wasn't that great IMO. I followed along and I am not getting into a rehash of that again.
The HSU numbers are on their site are 1 meter peak. To get to 2 meter rms you would subtract 9db.
Ricci measured the Rythmik also, so you can correlate the differences between the two testers and adjust HSU numbers that way as well.

All good subwoofers at their pricepoint, the Rythmik has a higher price. I would get it of the three with that budget IMO.
That being said I am a big proponent of multiple point sources in the modal region of a room. If there is a chance of spending less off the bat and adding a second later I would go that route.

I was in the same situation a couple months ago and ended up with the fv15hp with the 550W version. I went that route base off the databass chart Luke provided and from the two brother shoot out along with the latest Norteast GTG result. All positive with it. I came from a Hsu vtf2.3 and wanted the vtf15h since i love its little brother vtf2.3 but ended up with Rythmik instead. Right now, you can get the 550W version giving up 0.5 db in output for $100 discount.

Cleaner bass, deeper and much more powerful compare to my old VTF2.3 (not a fair comparision). The VTF2.3 distorts with the incredible hulk movie and some others. I have not heard any bad sound/distortion with the FV15hp. I auditioned the Hsu VTH15H at Hsu head office in Anaheim while I was working there and was not so impressive. They had dual VTF15H in their demo room so I listened to the dual as well as a single VTF15H. I love my FV15hp as well as everyone owning one or two. I suggest you to read those shoot out/ GTG threads/databass posted here along with Ricci's review of the FV15hp. At $1300-$1400 price range, most folks here would agree that you cannot find a better sub than the FV15hp.

The Rhythmik is considerably more, but if you have the money I say get it.

That said, you are going from one brand that is a one man gang to another that is a one man gang.. Hsu and SVS are going to have better customer service, so if that is important to you, I would consider one of those and put the savings toward a second sub or measuring equipment.

I will be looking for your thoughts on how it compares to the Phoenix. It is a shame Chad has never got back to you. Being an Epik Phoenix owner myself it causes me great concern of course.

Congrats man. I just ordered my FV15HP with the 550 amp last Friday and it is being delivered to my work tomorrow. Figured of all the weeks to have tickets to Eagles game it would be on a night when I just want to go home and fiddle with my new toy. lol

I also ordered the FV15HP today so I will be able to compare it directly to the JL F112. I'll post pictures.

It took all my might not to buy the SVS PB12 plus. I just never heard of Rythmik until I got onto these threads. I'm careful on these threads because I bought an Epson 6010 projector after reading all the hype on AVS and it was awful. Couldn't sell it fast enough. Nothing like what was said on AVS. I just hope that there are no company paid pumpers on AVS.

You have a lot of people buying something and all are saying it's great which leads to others buying the same product and not wanting to look silly, they say it's great too. 95% of what we see here is just opinion backed up by very very little fact. Otherwise we wouldn't have 75,000 sub manufacturers.

That is funny because I was the same way. Had my heart set on the PB12+ because I think it looks sexy, but after all of the reading I have done I really think the the Rythmik will be amazing.

If you want to confirm you thoughts on going with the Rythmik, take a look at the NE GTG thread. Plenty of really positive comments about the FV15HP and I doubt all the people at the meet were pumpers. lol

The nice thing about subwoofers and what Josh is doing at data-bass.com is that they can be measured and compared. Granted what you see on a chart does not always equate to what you hear in your room, but it is much better than just listening to random opinions. That and most people have a personal bias after they buy something. I have not regretted my VTF-15H for a second and my budget was a hard $1K shipped. Believe me, I really debated buying the Rythmik 15HP or the SVS PB12+, but I wanted to stick to my budget. On a $1400 budget the Rythmik seems like the best deal in that price range and I don't think you can go wrong.

I do wish I would have thought harder about DIY, as I am now realizing how much $1K buys you and what you can get. But not everyone wants to go DIY and I understand that.

I also pondered going the DIY route but not having the right tools and being fairly new to anything DIY I figured I would go with an ID brand for now and mess with DIY when I have more knowledge on it.

The problem with DIY is when and if you go to sell it they are worthless. I would never buy someone else's DiY, you have know idea how it was built and it's impossible to ship. I use to build sub boxes when I was younger and it is fun and easy but it's hard to get them just right as far as cubic feet.

I bought my JL F112 for $1900 and will be able to sell it tomorrow for $1800 a year later. If I put $800 into a DIY it would be worth $100 a year later if you we're to find a local buyer.

Not true at all. Really all you are out is the cost of the wood and finish. What, $50 max? Good woofers sell for good prices used most DIYers us external high powered pro amps. Again, you can sell those for minimal loss one year down the road too. At most you would be out $100-200. I am not dissing people who buy commercial, but it is easy to spend $1K DIY and you would need to spend about $3K to get similar commercial performance. This is coming from someone who bought commercial too, but after doing a lot of research lately, I am totally sold on going DIY now. $1K in hardware and finishing material for $3-4K in commercial SQ is too hard to resist smile.gif

The trick for my room is that I clearly need more sources. I was all set to buy 1-2 more VTF-15H's when I started researching DIY and it was a no-brainer since I have the tools and woodworking background.
