plex replacement

I had used plex to stream my Windows media center recordings from my pc to my android. However now they charge. Only 5 bucks but i wasn't that crazy about their gui plus I often got error messages
Any good free substitutes?

Isn't the server app still free, and hasn't the android app always cost a few dollars?

BTW you might want to check out remote potato. I know it has an android app or two.
