I'm about to update my surround sound system (about 8 years old) and will be doing so piece-by-piece as the funds become available. I will be starting with the receiver and sub. Eventually - I plan on replacing everything and want to have wireless rear speakers.

My question is whether or not the receiver needs to have some sort of special capability (network capability? Wireless Capability?) to have wireless speakers? Or is it now handled by an adapter that plugs in to any receiver? I want to make sure I don't buy the wrong component first and then regret it 6 months later when I am ready to get everything else.
