39" Insignia vs 37" lg

Looking at the basic versions of both, NS-39L240A13 which I can get for $300 and the lg 37 cs 560 which is $100 more. It will be used in bedroom, mostly for news and late night tv, so I am not comparing to my 58" panny that is in the family room. Any thoughts as to whether the LG is worth the extra $100???

I'd go with the Insignia seeing as it's 2 " bigger and $100 less. Plus the fact that it'll be a bedroom TV I think it would work fine. A few years ago we bought a Insignia for the bedroom of our summer place for watching the 10:00 news and Letterman/Leno and it was a good decision, very good picture and features for a good price.

Im not down on Insignia which I think is a great value budget brand. But I would opt for the 42" Isignia which uses a better panel than the 39" with significantly better blacks and brighter whites for much improved real contrast ratio..

Thanks, unfortunately a 42" one won't fit. The tv is between a dresser and a doorway in the bedroom.

Just curious, how do you know the 42 uses a better panel?

Ive identified them with a 10x loupe.

I would stay away from the 39" panel size as nearly all units are using the same unknownish panel (probably a Red Chinese Chei Lin made panel. The 40" size generally has good panels across the board.

jmsync, if you are still around.

I have the 39L240A13 Insignia at the Bar & Grill now, and now have solid evidence on the panel. It is surprisingly good, with very nice Black Levels. The viewing angles are very good too.

I can recommend it without reservations, especially over the 37" LG with it's S-IPS panel.

As I am the OP, I greatly appreciate everyone's help. I ended up with a 39" Toshiba LED. perfect for the bedroom and fits the space almost exactly. And $20 cheaper than the Insignia!
