Preamp or logitech squeezebox: bridge between network audio and 2 channel system

Hey all,

I've got a pair of Ascend CBM-170's, an adcom gfa-535 stereo amp, and... that's it.

However, I've also got a 2TB hard drive housed in a beautiful white Fractal Design case. I pretty much do 320 mbps mp3s exclusively.

My roommates have a PS3... using PS3mediaserver, I can stream music to the PS3. Probably don't want to use the analog outputs, tho... am I right? I was thinking about a Parasound P/HP-850, but then I'd be using the PS3 line outs which I dunno about.

The obvious solution at this point would be a receiver with toslink, or something a bit more exotic like the Emotiva XDA-1 or 2. The XDA-1 is in my price range, ~$200.

However, how would something like a Squeezebox compare against the XDA-1 as a preamp? Keep in mind my speakers cost $330, so I am somewhat hesitant about buying a $200 preamp even tho it should be a decent deal.

Also, am I missing any other solution out there?

Thanks,
Eric

If you can find a used squeezebox touch I would grab it! You can really build on that in the future if you want to. Analog out son the PS3 are going to bad.

I would be inclined to go with the XDA-1 so that you have more options to connect all of your possible digital sources.
