Oh, way to wave alcohol in front of an alcoholic

I actually had wides in my previous set-up (room) and while they were fine, they weren’t that impactful in my opinion. I actually had turned them off one weekend to see if I liked it more or less and all I can say is it was different (turning off the wides). Almost seemed like the soundfiled became more focused again….in a good way. So when I built this room I could have easily wired for heights, for example, but chose not to. Just went with the traditional 7.1 set-up.

If I had to list out some things I would consider buying in the next 12-24 months they would be
1)new pre-pro like AV8801 with XT32 but I think HDMI 2.0 is right around the corner so I will likely wait a while
2)the JTR Noesis..not because I don’t love my current set-up…but because they are the new shinny toy from JTR. Again, I am in no hurry whatsoever and am very happy with my new set-up. Something to think about next Christmas

Christmas bonus was spent largely on daddy’s HT toys and mommy's Pottery Barn addiction. Stock option pay out in Spring is going towards kids braces (times 2), family vacation, two golf trips that I have planned…you get the picture. Hard to justify yet another upgrade..not saying it won’t happen as I buy on impulse as much as the next HT addict…. but hard to justify at this point

One trip to Michigan in August is booked. My brother in law turns 40 and my two brother's in law, my father in law and I are going for a 5 day golf weekend. The other one will be in May with several co-workers but we haven't made reservations yet. Talking about heading down to Tennesse to play around Crossville.

Sounds good Jeff. Lets stay in touch and perhaps we can work something out schedule wise. We can declare JTR speaker mulligans and leave my friends in the dust

My wife bought them. If I had to guess I would say Pottery Barn as that is where she buys everything else

To be honest I have never looked into a masking system. Might be someething I have to research this year and see if it makes sense.

I don't remember the official name. It is a mixture of a darker blue and grey from Porter Paint. I would say in person it is a little darker than the pictures show. I didn't want to go too dark as it is a daily home media room that wanted to feel open and inviting. Realizing that with a project screen, darker walls are better to get less reflections.


I have read that. I will need to do some research and see if it something I want to get into.

Thank you for the kind words. When I designed the space I was going for the family friendly media room look and not the dedicated movie room look. Wanted to make sure family/friends could come over and enjoy a game or watch a movie and something I could use on a daily basis and it was "comfortable".

I consider JTR speakers to be very accurate. Though they are physically large, they use BMS drivers and have a well designed crossover. To me, they sound great at lower levels as well as when they turned up a bit.


I have seen you dispense your HT crack...I am on to you sir!!!! I can already make the glasses in the kitchen dance...I'm talking get down and boogie!!!! So I don't think additional subs are in the pipeline. Perhaps a new pre/pro to replace my Marantz but I am waiting for HDMI 2.0 to make it to market before I make any more upgrades.

I have never thought about having a meet but definetly will have some get togethers in the fall to watch the bucks play. Aerial dealer....is that Audible elegance? Great equipment, horrible owner. He actually is hardly there anymore as I believe he moved to California but still owns the store.
