Guys, we need to relax here....
I am NO fan of oval racing, and I don't think it belongs in this thread.
HOWEVER, let us have the good manners to point others to the appropriate threads...wink.gif.

IndyCar doesnt race on just ovals. And the Indianapolis 500 is not just another oval.
So now are you suggesting that every kind of racing is ok here in the F1 thread as long as its not oval racing? Maybe I dont think ALMS belongs here. Maybe I dont think MotoGP belongs here. Maybe I dont think DTM belongs here. Maybe I dont think GP2 belongs here. Shall I continue?
Just because some guy with a bad attitude comes to the thread you think we should change everything? Gimme a break!
As far as Im concerned racing in great. I might not like all the kinds you like but Im not gonna knock what you like. Post away! Theres no reason for me to get offended by the kind of racing you like. If I dont want to comment then I wont comment. Is it going to kill me because you make a comment here on some kind of racing that isnt my favorite? Please! rolleyes.gif
Heaven forbid that someone takes up too much space or "pollutes" this thread! Thats childish nonsense! mad.gif
That guy has contributed absolutely nothing to this thread and then his first post is to complain in a rude and vulgar way about whats being posted?! Hes the one that is polluting this thread!
And then you want to give him some kind of credibility?! Sorry, but Im very disappointed oink.

I am grateful that AVS lets us come here and discuss racing at all. I think that is very cool of them. Technically this is an Audio and Video Science forum. So if you are discussing anything other than picture and sound quality issues you are out of bounds. Is that what you guys want this thread to become?

I appreciate that and I will definitely join it. But I really like the guys here and unless they have some problems with it I will still post here. I could care less about gerhard. He doesnt even count. Respect has to be earned.

99 percent of AVS threads go off track at some point. In between races, we've all gone off track a little but have managed to keep it about cars the whole time.

I think we are doing pretty good. Good group of guys here. Lets not let some guy leverage us into fighting.

I have seen this. I have done this. You do not want this.

I could not agree more. Thats why it kinda bummed me out to see oink taking up for the guy. We shouldnt be posting about oval racing here. What!? eek.gif

Seriously? Stupid trashers continue, I don't know why we all can't embrace racing in many forms. The Indy 500 is an American tradition and usually an excellent race to watch as well.

And oh by the way, ovals are a small part of IndyCar racing now.

Yeah I know don't feed the troll, so I'll stop now.
I think I will post 2 pages of live commentary here during the Indianapolis 500 just to please gerhard and oink. biggrin.gif

As the thread starter I'll just make the executive decision that since we already agreed that NASCAR bashing between races is acceptable and good for our moral, then Indy Car will just have to be fair game as well. tongue.gif

Anyone notice that Monaco is scheduled twice next week, with the live race at 7:30 eastern on NBC and then another showing on NBCSN at 10:30?

What's odd is that the pre-race is on NBCSN at 7:00, not NBC.
The decline and fall of the Indianapolis 500 breaks my heart. It has deteriorated from "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing!" to being not much more than one more race in a third rate (literally) racing league. It is well we have such great television coverage of F1 these days to show us what real big time racing looks like.
If you havent noticed I dont bash NASCAR either. But since you are the top dog do as you will. wink.gif

I agree to some extent. Its not what it used to be but I still love and respect the place. And there has been some great racing in IndyCar lately. And theres no arguing that it is still one of the races that ALL race car drivers want to win.

I would imagine the 10:30 showing is a rerun.

While I am not going to complain about the Indy 500 talk in this thread to much, Indycar really should have its own thread. Actually, I would say there needs to be just three threads. One for Nascar, one for F1 and one for all of the other racing series.

Outside of the 500, I don't really care about Indycar, so it will be the only race I watch this year. I am curious how ABC is going to handle not having Ashley Judd there.eek.gif

A little OT. I just saw the ESPN video with Lindsey Czarniak, which reminds me of another one of my stupid mistakes (to many to count). About a decade ago, I met her and had a chance to go out with her. I didn't follow through. Funny enough, we talked about every sport except racing. I didn't know she was a big fan till later.

Back to topic. I thought Honda had to at least offer their engine to other teams. I would be curious if the manufacturers can charge the teams whatever they want or if it has to be a fixed price for all the teams. If they can charge whatever they want, then they could offer it to Mclaren for $15 mill and to the other teams for $40 mill. Of course, that would not be in the best interest of the manufacturer.

On the subject of engine pricing, I actually thought the pricing would have been higher. I am curious what the stupid aero budget is. On second thought don't tell me.wink.gif

I think it's not really for us to decide or handle. If someone wants to create a dedicated thread for another racing series, they should do so. If it gets traffic and has life, then good. If not then it wasn't meant to be.

I'm happy discussing the occasional ALMS action here. I have no plans to start a thread for it, but I 'm not so sure I would participate in different thread for "other racing series." But if you think that would work, start it and see what happens.

WHOA!
Hold on, Big Guy.eek.gif

My comment wasn't directed at you.
If you feel it was, I sincerely apologize.

My post was to get everyone to take it down a notch...nothing more.
That type of talk invites the attention of the mods and they do hand out suspensions and will lock threads.
I don't think anyone really wants to see that happen.

My point about ovals is we had all agreed earlier this thread wasn't appropriate for NASCAR due to its lack of resemblance to F1.
IMO, the Indy cars fall into this category too.

Sports Car racing is closely related to F1, at least in terms of its running exclusively on roadcourses.
While the tech isn't as sophisticated, much of the same strategies apply.
Of course, YMMV.

At any rate, to reiterate, I meant no disrespect and apologize if you think I did.

Point taken! With the possible exception of Monaco Indianapolis is the most historic venue in the history of motor racing. I let rhetoric outstrip judgment in my last post because of how much I once loved the Indy 500 and how angry I become when I think of the terminal stupidity of the Hulmans that squandered its legacy.
