46" samsung es7100 or hx850

I'm throwing up between one of these two tv sets.
I went to my local brick and mortar, to check them both out side by side, and the samsung defiantly has more of a "dynamic" picture feel to it, whereas the sony is more of a true picture quality, with better shading details.


My question is, does the samsung 7100 have an awesome quality picture when its calibrated?
The ones I looked at were clearly out of the box, and I know picture can drastically change when calibrated.
If I can get the 7100 to have the same darker color detail as the sony, I will probably lean towards the 7100.

But in saying that, the 850 is nicer, but seems a little dearer so I'm not quite sure what my best option is.

Also, how are these tv's for gaming? I will mostly be using it for gaming and movies, and some streaming when I connect it to my HTPC so hopefully they have low input lag.
Plasma's are out of the question, due to them being too big (cant get below 50" where I live) and noisy

I own both. Hands down the 850.

Better black levels and better motion

Samsung looks better off tho

Thanks for the info.
I went to 2 stores, and the salesmen completly took opposite sides.

One raved on and on about the sony and the other said the sony was crap and that the es7100 was the one to go for, due to the dual core processor and the fact that sony cant play mkv's and has a crap web browser etc etc

850 is definitely the way to go. Plasma-like motion, great color, deeper blacks.

Also, I'm pretty sure the X-Reality Pro engine is also dual-core. As far as the MKV thing, who cares? You can use a blu-ray player or media streamer that will.

Web browser: I've used the browser on the Samsungs, and it's mediocre at best. Same with my Panasonic. Never used the Sony, but I'm sure it sucks too. Point being: who cares? You buy a TV for the picture quality, not extra gimmicks.

The 850 looks better than the 7100. That's what should matter.

Yah that is the 8000. The 7100 has the lowest form of samsungs local dimming. The hx850 has the best local dimming of sony's EDGE lit displays. I say go for the 850 and if you arent blown away return it for the 7100. The 850 will also have a bit better viewing angles from what I have heard. Also the sonys seem to be better on input lag in game mode. The samsung has an awesome outside design but so does the hx850 with the gorilla glass. I have a samsung d6000 from last year and i am unhappy. I will be going for the hx850 next month.

There is also this video to remove bezels to create an even slimmer panel on the samsungs

Which is damn awesome.


If I get the hx850 I might try to remove the bezel if the gorilla glass lets me
