Yamaha YHT-597 vs Denon DHT1513BA

I'm looking at these two systems as well. Did you happen to find anything out about the two? I purchased a Yamaha YHT-497 from Bestbuy this week because I was told by a sales associate there that this unit had "Standby HDMI Pass Through" capability. I got it home and set it all up only to find out that it doesn't. Even though the Yamaha YHT-597 is a discontinued model it does have this feature according to the Yamaha website. So...I've narrowed it down between both of these HTiBs. Any information to help in the decision would be helpful.

BB salespeople are notoriously clueless about their products. I'd go to the Yamaha and Denon sites and download the user manuals and read thru them to see what they have to say. FWIW, I have a Yamaha receiver and it has been a solid, trouble-free performer.

Just ordered the package on ebay, I was going to buy just the receiver prior, then saw this for sale which included the 5.1 speakers, which I know are not the greatest, but should suffice for my budget. still have to get it and playit, so jury is still out, but I'm excited to get.

I tested out the Yamaha YHT-497BL and denon 1513BA. The Denon sounded better with its Boston Acoustics speakers, but I havn't tested the Yamaha 597 yet. I called frys to check if they had one on display and they didn't have one cuase they sold it...so just going have to wait to hear how the Yamaha 597 sounds. Its got different speakers than the yamaha 497.

Not at home but I listed in the BB store. The Denon was much better to to me. I couldn't believe how good it sounded actually.

Speakers make all the difference. A good speaker system can make a mediocre receiver sound great but a great receiver with mediocre speakers will sound bad.
