The Voice, Season 4, March 25th, 2013, NBC HD - Page 6

Well, now that the field has narrowed down, I'm beginning to form an opinion on a few ... I really like Judith Hill .. she has that classic Motown soul voice, an effortless delivery and her look is nice, although she could pick a little better wardrobe ..

Blake ended up with what he wanted, I suppose, with an all Country team .. the Swons are playing it very safe by sticking with classics most could sing along with ..

Oddly enough, I feel like Shakira has the strongest overall team .. Garrett, Karina, Sasha (especially Sasha) and Kris Thomas are all very good and Sharira has a solid mix of styles that does not really overlap ..

Ushers team I just don't know .. I had hoped that Ryan Innes would be this seasons St Nick but he just blew that last song with a poor delivery so good bye .. Michelle Chamuel can sing and she has the energy but I don't see anyone from Team Usher making it to the final 3 .. nor anyone from Team Blake ..

I gotta say, for being who many think is the frontrunner this season, I personally was not impressed with Judith Hill last night. To be honest, I thought her version of that song sucked.

Actually, no one blew me away last night. Sure, there were good performances, but none that made me say "XYZ knocked it out of the park and became the favorite last night."

I really wish Vedo would have kept "Against All Odds" simple and low key. When he was doing so, he was killing that song (which is one of my all-time favorites), but as soon as he started getting loud and adding runs to it, it started to fall apart.

And what was with Shakira's little pissy moment there? I thought I was watching Christina again for a second. It came shortly after it seemed she was cut off from giving her opinion on a previous contestant and then when asked on the next one, all she could say was something along the lines of "the opinion of a little ant like me doesn't matter." Please don't become another stuck up diva that gets her panties in a bunch like the one you replaced.

I thought song selection was the main problem last night. Too many tired old karaoke songs. Even the duo with Adam/Usher was completely stale.

My only comment on Shakira is that her mic seemed to be placed bad or something, because as she moved around her voice would really drop off. But then the whole "live" show looked a little rusty, they will get better.
Although I do like it, I'm not a huge Country fan, but I gotta say to me it looks like this is definitely going to come down to Danielle Bradbery (Team Blake) and Amber Carrington (Team Adam) in the finals. They are both unbelievably good, especially Danielle.

Oh, and did anyone else notice how no coach (besides his own) said anything positive about Garrett's "Imagine"? They tried to be polite by dancing around the subject, but none of them actually said it was good. I don't blame them as I thought it was absolutely atrocious. Of course he'll stay because along with Josiah, they are the token "cute boys" that every show has to have.

The ratings continue to drop on this show, and watching it leaves little doubt for the reasons why. The live shows have been boring and tedious. Too much country, no rock singers, just one alternative artist, tired song choices...etc. Their "social media area" continues to be an instant fast-forward. The Blake/Shakira duo looked like they spent 5 minutes practicing it.

What is this... a group number to "We Are The Champions"? Is this the second season of Idol? Just silly at this point.

There are about 6 decent contestants this season, but overall the live shows were much better last season.

Looking at the half-hour ratings, they actually lost viewers after the first hour last night. That should be a huge red flag to the producers.

Very much agree .. the terms I would use so far are "mediore at best / down right boring at worst .. "

And Adam needs to think up some new praise phrases .. I'm ready to throw a shoe at the TV the next time I hear him spout off the same old same old ..

??? They went from a 3.5 (8pm-9pm) to a 3.7 (9pm-10pm.) They again trounced NCIS in their time slot, and were easily the highest ranked show of the night.

The numbers available when I did my original post showed a decline in both total viewers and the 18-49 demo (where 8:30 to 9:00 was the peak).

8:00 p.m. - NBC – The Voice
Viewers: 10.54 million (#2), A18-49: 3.3/11 (#1)

8:30 p.m. - NBC – The Voice
Viewers: 11.66 million (#2), A18-49: 3.8/11 (#1)

9:00 p.m. - NBC – The Voice
Viewers: 11.21 million (#2), A18-49: 3.7/10 (#1)

9:30 p.m. - NBC – The Voice
Viewers: 11.19 million (#3), A18-49: 3.7/10 (#1)

The ratings may have been adjusted higher later in the day.

Perfect post. Agreed. The chair turning rounds are always the best, now not so much.

Tuesday seemed to be an improvement this week over the Monday show ..

Sasha moves up a few notches for me .. and Kris Thomas as well ..

I'm beginning to sense Sashas real emotional connection to what she's singing and I'm getting some of that from Kris as well ..

All in all, I'd say the right folks went home this week ..

The voting "inconsistencies" bit was a little strange ..

Shakira continues to impress and is miles above Xtina ..

The producers need to let Adam go first instead of last on his saves ..

It's always good when the lives start up and Paul Mirkovich and the band get to be out front .. I generally listen to the show near reference level and those guys are some great live players ..

Rod's getting a little long in the tooth ..

Seriously, it really is getting pathetic how he drags it out until the last second and then just yells out a name. Enough already with the fake drama!

On a side note, I have a general question about timing that isn't solely about this show. I see a lot do it these days. What's the deal with shows running to 1 minute past the top of the hour? Are they trying to get official ratings for the next time slot by doing so or is there some other reason?

IMO, I don't think it's fake .. I think Adam does not run thru any scenrios in his brain before the save like the others seem to do .. thus he has to make his save cold and on the spot .. and Adam is certainly indecisive and gets even more so under pressure .. just my opinion, but I don't see him as that good of an actor to fake it that well ..

I think it's just to annoy us DVR users.

They should threaten to sic Bloody Face on him again if he doesn't speed it up. biggrin.gif

The singer with the song on iTunes with the most (and positive) votes was booted. Weird. Caroline was sent home despite having the only memorable song of the week (to me anyway). The ratings are flat for the show, which NBC will gladly take. If they start falling to Idol's lows, I think they should start panicking a little that the bubble has burst. It went head-to-head with Idol last night. Interested to see how each fared.

One thing is obvious to me - Shakira's performance during the auditions and battlerounds was the result of artful editing/scripting. She's a lot less competent during the live shows imo. The show is still incredibly watchable though, unlike X Factor and Idol.

U-verse takes that extra time into consideration.

Yea, so does TWC, but if that extra minute conflicts with another recording, it won't record the other show.

You know, when Shakira selected "We Are The Champions" as her team tune, I rolled my eyes and thought "OK, I wish they would stay away from material that I don't believe anyone should touch .. and that includes John Lennon and Al Green .. but, the gang did not do to bad a job with it .. I mean at least it was not butchered .. of course, the band had a lot to do with it as well ..

I'll still take Shakira over Xtina any day .. and her duet with Blake was pretty good as well .. and man, did you see Blake break out into a sweat .. ?? Booze or just plain heat .. ?? And I don't mean the room temperature .. wink.gif

I was killing myself laughing at that as well! Looked like he jumped out of the shower and walked on stage without drying off!

All in all, can't fault any of the picks too much. The only one I would have personally changed was Adam's - I like Caroline better, as I think there are enough diva-esque ballad singers already.

One thing that I noticed this week was that Shakira is a complete micromanager - she definitely has a vision in her mind of what she wants from the singer, and tries to get that exact version out of the singer. Xtina was like this as well (is it a female vs. male coaching thing?). The other coaches all seem to throw out general tips and only correct specific things that they think aren't working - I think this leads to more genuine performances when only a short time is available to practice the songs.

Caroline's style is generally not my cup of tea, but I was rooting for her somewhat due to her being a hometown girl and all .. I'm sure St Louis will keep her busy for a while anyway ..

When Blake started to practically drip, I looked at my wife and said "To bad Adam does not have a roll of Bounty handy .. " .. Adam could have run up on the stage and wiped his face a la James Brown ..

Sad to see Caroline go; I liked her voice quite a lot.

Me too. And I'm also sick of the fat girl whining about not being the right body type for success.

Even if you use the above, the average rating for the second hour was higher than it was for the first hour.

Voice managed to beat Idol on a night people didnt expect it to be on. Is it any wonder they're doing a complete overhaul of Idol next season? On the flipside, NBC is going to run The Voice straight into the ground by televising it twice a year.

I guess I could have written:

"Looking at the half-hour ratings, they actually lost viewers after the show peaked during the 8:30 to 9:00 time period. That should be a huge red flag to the producers."

I'm sorry that my original post was incredibly misleading and inaccurate. By the way, what did you think of the show this week? Got anything to add to this forum?

I hardly think that dropping from a half-hour rating of 3.8 to back-to-back half-hour ratings of 3.7 and 3.7 would be cause for a red flag.

After editing the show down with the >> button on my DVR, it was about the same as usual (though they need to slip the drummer some decaf.) The in between performances fluff was never a strong point of this show. And Blake is digging himself a hole with his all-country shtick. No non-country performer will pick him next year. Performance wise, I think Sarah from Team Adam was the best of the night.
