My recollection is that Toby Keith was huge in the Country market long before the Dixie Chicks cratered there and owes zip to the Chicks thereafter either.

I don't think I said he owes them anything .. my point was it helped his popularity since he immediately capitalized on the Chicks notoriety ..

What's funny is that history bore them out. And like I said, produced their best album. All this rah rah America nonsense needs to stop. It just leads to stupidity like Adam having to apologize for an off-the-cuff statement that to no sane human being meant he actually hated his country.

Toby Keith's first album was released in 1993.

The Dixie Chicks' first album, Wide Open Spaces, with the "current" line-up was released in 1998 so I don't think he capitalized on their notariety. In fact, his first Greatest Hits album was also released in 1998.

I know Keith's history .. let me further clarify ..

Toby Keith‘s ‘Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue.’ .. and the subsequent photo of Maines with Saddam Hussein on tour. .. that's what I am referring to .. not Keith's popularity prior to the Chicks ..

I call that capitalizing ..

I call that pandering to the lowest common denominator.

Wow, I didn't know that. That's bull IMO.

Pretty much in this scenario, all you have to do is get a huge lead and then cruise at the end. Sorry, but I don't agree with this. Everything in the past should be thrown out and it should come down to that final night.

I keep hoping that the producers may change it to a more fair system ..

I'll add that the smirk I thought I saw on Danielles face as well as the fake "I'm surprised" act pretty well said it all ..

That Toby Keith song is a good example of why I hate country music.

On the topic of this show. I don't think I'm going to like the outcome, according to these descriptions of the voting tally.

Whatever. I feel just the opposite on both counts. Good thing we're not all alike, I guess.

I'm sure the producers at The Voice were pretty upset about the basketball finals going to a game 7 tonight against their show.

Looking at the set list, 9 of 12 songs are country songs tonight. rolleyes.gif

Let's see... I live in Indianapolis, love the Pacers, and normally watch The Voice. Looks like the DVR will get a workout tonight with The Voice and Longmire both on. And, I won't be recording the game. wink.gif

I didn't fast-forward through one word that Shakira said all night. smile.gif

Before anybody says anything... Oops!! There's always next year. And, yes, Shakira was hot, hot, and super hot!

If Michelle and Sasha don't make it thru tonight, America has no taste and the voting public knows nothing about singing .. and I'm sorry friends, but these two clearly out sang the other four ..

I'm guessing tonight either the Swons or Holly get the boot ..

I'll 4th that sentiment. Damn, she looked phenominal! biggrin.gif

As for the show, I guess I'll start with what I and I'm sure others expected to be at the start of the program and that was an apology by Adam. So much for that. rolleyes.gif
Like I said earlier, I personally wasn't offended, but he risked alienating a lot of people with that comment and putting a bullseye on Amber. If she ends up being the lone person to go home tonight, I will put the blame on Adam.

As for the performances, I would have to give the overall nod to Sasha, but for a single performance I would have to say Michelle's version of the Taylor Swift song was the best.
The sad thing is this nation is so Countryfied (yeah, I know it's not a word) that Sasha might be in danger.

I continue to believe Blake has fully figured out how to win .. and he even seemed to allude to that last night when he said something about the all important what people will buy ..

Even the other coaches are drifting toward Country ..

I checked this morning and it looks like Michelle is the only one from last night that broke the top 10 on iTunes ..

And yes, Shakira looks better and better each week .. I just wish she's get out of the chair more to we could glimpse the whole package .. wink.gif

Amber is really the dark horse at this point .. IMO ..

I really like Sasha's husky tone, but she tends to get a little off key during her performances. I haven't heard any, but I assume a studio recording of hers would be fantastic.

Judging by the iTunes charts, it looks like Holly is in a heap of trouble tonight...

4 Usher Michelle Chamuel “I Knew You Were Trouble”
12 Blake Danielle Bradbery “A Little Bit Stronger”
18 Usher Michelle Chamuel “Somewhere Only We Know”
20 Blake Danielle Bradbery “Shake the Sugar Tree”
25 Shakira Sasha Allen “Before He Cheats”
28 Blake The Swon Brothers “Wagon Wheel”
31 Adam Amber Carrington “I Remember You”
33 Adam Amber Carrington “Crazy”
43 Shakira Sasha Allen “Ain’t No Way”
47 Blake The Swon Brothers “Okie From Muskogee”
69 Blake Holly Tucker “My Wish”
122 Blake Holly Tucker “When God-Fearin’ Women Get the Blues”

After watching the show, I'm thinking Michelle might be a good possibility to win it. She picks the right songs every time. She's hardly the best voice, but she's good at picking songs.

As much as I hate country music I really liked Danielle's song about the sugartree, and the countryish remake of the skid row song too.
Amber's second song was nice, but it was a bad idea. Not going to get any votes. Confirmed by those itunes number above.

Swon brothers....what a waste of time, horribad every time I see them. Typical country music garbage.

More yelling from Sasha. If she could control that crap she could be good.

Absolutely agree!

My guess it's "BYE BOYS" tonight. An Okie, indeed. A tornado sympathy try, perhaps?
Is this the Country Voice now? Only 3 non-country tunes last night, did we really need to hear Sasha jump on that bandwagon? Given my own personal distaste for country, it makes for a very quick show now with the DVR. With that said, I agree that Danielle really has a great voice, perfect pitch every time.

I liked "Wagon Wheel," but I could have done without the "Okie" song. They are about 40 years too late with that one.

Merle Haggard is as much an icon in Country as Patsy Cline .. the Swons attempting "Okie" made me feel embarrassed for them .. out of all the tunes they could have picked .. or did Blake pick it .. ??

That was the song selected for them by Blake.

The problem with The Swon Brothers is they are not playing to win. This is a common mistake on other reality shows such as Survivor, where contestants get so focused on playing safe to reach the finals, that they don't have any credibility to actually be named the winner. The Swon's are nothing more than a common cover-band at this point. Their only hope is to quickly establish something unique and interesting that will make them an artist, but it's probably too late for that.
I think the older Swon brother should give the younger one the boot. He really doesn't add anything to that duo and quite frankly sucks when he tries to sing on his own. The older one though has a good voice for Country.

Oh, and Blake needs to stop with the whole "no one sounds like the Swons" nonsense. They aren't special or unique.
