Tekton Pendragon - Page 6

I would say the issue not how long it takes: It's discrepancies between how long it is stated to take compared to how long it takes combined with a failure to communicate changes.

+1 JerryLove

I would add that order of fulfilling orders seems to be a little uneven. Normally it is first come...first get. Or at the very least ...first come, first get in the same line, but there are reports of people getting passed over for others who ordered same type of speakers much later.

Anyway... Eric has a great product and some very good PR out there now. I would hate for that to go down the drain. If anyone knows Eric I would again ask them to let him know about this thread.

Want to give him every chance of responding and gain back some of the credibility that seems to be waning.

Agreed. But It is so hard to be upset when the speakers he makes are so damn good. Like nothing I've listened to compares with them. It is just the patience required to get your set of Pendragons (in my case the remaining of my 5.0 surround set).

His speakers are phenomenal. But getting them is like waiting for your instrument to be built by a master violin maker.... It's always "soon" but never today.

Toy is right. Even the theme songs on tv sound better. Going to watch blueray of the hobbit tomorrow and looking forward to be amazed. I actually get excited leaving work and knowing I'm gonna hear some sweet sounds. I know it will wear off , but until it does ...

Chalug, what did you have before the Tekton's?
Had B&W series 6. Two bookshelf speakers and centre channel worth 1500. Centre channel had two 6.5: speakers. My pendragon has two tens. THe sensativity difference from 89db to 98db is huge. THe b&w were so laid back. With the tektons I feel like I am in the movie scene, jumping in my seat. Bullets sound so much more forceful. Guitars in music just shine. Voices are about 20% better for understanding whats said. Listened to some James Blunt last night and he was sublime. Like some others have said, its a gateway to higher end stuff for us on a tighter budget.

Anyone take a look at the latest Blog post on the website? New speaker line available the "Enzo". Regardless of a wait I couldn't resist trying them so ordered a pair in Satin Red. Blew my budget since I was originally considering the Lore. Eric said this design is so linear, that from 500hz to 20K it only deviates a half db.
Well for sure not a Pendragon class...priced not too much less...seems to be like an M-Lore. Not sure what Eric was trying to accomplish there... Does not seem to fit a open niche in his line up.

At 2k he has TONS of competition....
^ cabinets quite a bit smaller than the Pendragon. That is about all we can say until we here them and someone compares to the Pendragon.

Ha, so you pulled the trigger. What time frame did he give you for completion? They definitely look interesting. I might prefer these to the Pendragons for a HT setup.

Hey everyone, thanks LVS for the post. I saw this update on the Tekton Blog and also wondered where the Enzo's fit in. But on the Pendragon HT post Eric shows dual Pen subs......and they are HUGE! He was laughing somewhat when telling me how they would "really rock" but look at'm, of course they will. But he makes( or made) an S12 sub with dual 12" drivers. Anyone know anything about these. He said he would be sending a Pen HT system to Andrew Robinson for a follow up review, I guess we'll find out

I think it might be helpful if everyone posts what Tekton speakers they ordered, the date of the order and the date of receipt. It might give us some help with estimating true delivery times.

Speakers: M-Lore (Satin White)
Order Date: February 12, 2013
Estimated Delivery Date: 3 weeks from order date
Delivery Date: Not yet delivered

I did... I was wanting to wait for your evaluation but the way things were going.... I saw these, and I figured hey, they might be a priority to get these out and in to the hands of folks as soon as possible. Plus I did want something for HT as well instead of just purely music. I just ordered the L/R for now will wait on the center until I evaluate these. I plan to setup a dedicated listening room, with a solid state amp and also a small 16.5w tube amp and DAC likely from Emotiva to trial them. I was not the first order, I think he had received at least 5-orders but said I was the 3rd pair since I ordered standard satin finish and the custom finishes take longer.

Speakers: Enzo (Satin Red)
Order Date: February 28 2013
Estimated Delivery Date: 3-4 weeks from order date
Delivery Date: Not yet delivered

I spoke with Eric today and he said that there are several cabinets ready for the Enzos. I definitely want to see some measurements for these. Needless to say, I'm intrigued. The center channel is supposed to be 10.5" y'all and not as long as the Pendragon center. So it will be easier to place.

I just went over his lineup again. Am I missing something? I don't understand what niche this is filling in his line up. Of course, I have not heard them..but still seems a little strange. And only $250 dollars more per speaker for the Pendragon and with a small shop you want to simplify the number of speakers you have...but ah well...will wait for reviews to come in!

Did you notice the little sensitivity skew also... 94dB 1W@1m vs. 98 using the 2.83v@1M and the Enzos are probably are nominally 6 Ohms vs. 8 Ohms.

Lore-S
$1400
8 inch transducer
Hybrid aluminum/magnesium high frequency transducer
250 Watts
94dB 1W@1m 8 Ohms impedance
37Hz-40kHz frequency response
36" tall x 10.25" wide x 11.75" deep - 48lbs

Enzos
$2000
Proprietary design and concept (patenting work ongoing)
Dual 8″ transducers and triple ring radiator HF transducers
98dB sensitivity 2.83V@1m
6 Ohm average impedance – 4 Ohm minimum impedance
40hz-30kHz response – linear
40.5″ tall x 10″ wide x 13″ deep and 52lbs

With all due respect to Eric, and i am in love with my Pendragons, you guys may have miss the part where i called to cancel my order and he called me the same day to say they would ship the very next day. With that said they were worth the wait. I am still blown away every time i play music on them and i came from Anthony Gallo Strada's. I am frustated with the constant introduction of new speakers and orders are months behind. Hang in they guys, the Pens are awesome!!!!!

Finally I got my Oriel 10's. After a few hours of break-in, I sat down to listen and I was...underwhelmed. They didn't sound right; in fact, they sounded out of phase! I cued up My One and Only Love from the John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman Lush Life album and I could not tell where Johnny Hartman's voice was coming from...wtf. A few more cuts and still the same, something was not right. Had I wasted my money! I checked my banana plug speaker connections and they were right. I got a flashlight and looked in the left speaker's top port and..aha!..Eric had connected the left speaker out of phase; the red positive speaker lead was connected to the black (negative) speaker binding post. I reversed the banana plugs and..voila... the speakers sound came around and the sound was great. Now..that's what I'm talkin' bout; the sound was nice and lively, the bass tight and defined and every thing is now right in the universe.

I'm going to email Eric and tell him about the error. It's not a big deal but he should know.

Ordered Dec. 28
Oriel 10s, white satin
Delivered March 2
Said......oh what the hell, forget about it.
Let us know in a couple of days if they are as good as I think they are. Glad you got them and didn't have to cancel !

I'm glad he finally announced these Enzo's! It was a case of perfect timing. I had e-mailed Eric a few days earlier asking him what speaker he'd recommend for my budget/needs (it was between the Lore and the Pendragons...2-channel music only, in a dedicated room 12x16 or so). He called two days later telling me about the Enzos, as they had just finished listening to the first finished pair. I won't give any specific quotes as to what he said these were meant to compete with (I'll wait for that review to come out), but I will say I left our conversation thinking these were exactly the music-purposed speakers I was looking for. Let's hope I like what I hear.

I ordered mine February 5th with a 4-6 wk expected turn around, although I'm anticipating longer...

Without quoting him... Can you give us a general idea where these are supposed to fit in the line up? Why did you think they would be a perfect fit as composed to Pendragons (space?)

Well, I'll admit, dimensions or anything didn't come up, and now that I know they're similar to the Lore, I'm a bit curious as to where they fit as well (and maybe why I just didn't order the Pendragons, but I think that's the nature of upgrade-itis in this relentless hobby). Still, these are supposed to be great for 2-channel listening, going after the B&W 800 series (ambitious, to be sure). All I know is Eric sounded very happy with them on the phone, and we seemed to be on the same page as to what I was looking for. There comes a time when you just have to take a leap, so this is my $2000+ leap (it's only money, right?) I currently have Maggie 1.7's, and as clear as they are, they just aren't meshing well in my new place (listening room is smaller), so that's where Eric and his Tektons are coming in.

I'm reminded of a review of the Pendragons vs. Lores I read where the reviewer said as awesome as the Pendragons were, he felt for dedicated 2-channel, he preferred the Lore. So, I'm under the impression the Enzos are supposed to take this a step further, but that's just my opinion.

Obviously we'll have to wait for some reviews. I ordered mine in Macassar Ebony, so I'm guessing they will be delayed a little for the extra finishing time.

It would be nice if Eric would add a bookshelf speaker in the 300-400 dollar slot for a pair . The m-lore is super affordable for towers but I am looking in the future to get a pair of rears to match my tekton fronts. Currently I have. Polks which are fine and would be nice to round out with tektons .

Honestly, hearing from the other very small ID shops...it is next to impossible to make money on low cost bookshelves. That is why they stay out of that market. Higher end ...even mid-level...ok. Now when I say "smaller" normally referring to 1-3 maybe 4 peep operations. Obviously, Ascend, EMP and allot of others can do it easily.
I have the Pentagons but I am strictly 2 ch but thinking may like to venture into surround. I personally like the idea of a smaller wall mounted dipole or bipole design for the rear and wish Tekton made a set. I have limited knowledge of surround systems.. Is a dipole speaker better in the rear so you get more of a reflected sound from the back? I know other manufactures make these and would take up less room but matching with the pendragon fronts?
I do have an early set of small Fostex loaded Tektons that I absolutely love in a 2 ch setup but would not be a good match for rears I do not think. I barley have room for the Pendragon front and not sure I can make the big rear speakers work. Thinking about making that change from 2 ch as I do have a 60" TV in the room and an extra pro EV dbl 18" sub in the garage so my wheels are turning and may try with what I have before I purchase more stuff.

Bookshelf to complete 5.1 or 7.1 packages. Hsu and SvS, and others can do it. Not a big deal but I think some people want to buy the whole setup and get it done with one purchase. He makes some nice looking subs but doesn't advertise it on the product page. Be interested in seeing a review of his new pendragon sub that goes for $600. Is the pillow below the tv for your dog Soundman ?
Wouldn't call the Pendragon surrounds "bookshelves" but you can use them. Just saying that so you get lower in price ...your profit margin goes lower too. You can make a $800 surround and make $200 dollars or a $300-$400 dollar and make $50-100 bucks... The volume isn't there in a small shop...so the cheaper speakers just eat up your limited time, resources etc.

Anyway...I do agree as a customer a smaller / cheaper surround that matches is nice...just hard for the smaller shops with limited time and resources.
