Completely phenomenal. I have no complaints at all. They replace a set of Polk RTi6 bookshelf speakers, and the improvement is jaw-dropping. They're being powered by a Denon AVR-2113 (95W) receiver, nothing fancy. After I unpacked them and broke them in for ten hours, they consumed our weekend. We went on a listening orgy: movies, discs, a couple downloads from hdtracks.com, etc. I bought these to complete my new homemade home theater (gorgeous JVC RS56 projecting a 100" image in a completely blacked-out room) and expected to use them almost exclusively for movies. However, they make music sound so good that I'm finding myself just sitting in there and listening to albums--an activity that I last did in the 1980s when I was a teenager. As others have said, the separation of sounds is wonderful, almost like you can hear the silence between the individual instruments. Everything sounds warm and tight and real.THE SPEAKER CABINETS
deserve their own paragraph. Their craftsmanship really surprised me. All sides are perfect and beautiful, and there are no discernible seams anywhere. If I didn't know better, I would think he carved each speaker out of one solid piece of wood. I ordered grills (not delivered yet, nor have I been charged for them), and it will be sad to put them on. They will detract from the cabinet's perfection. However, my theater is right next to the guest room where little kids sometimes stay, so grills are kind of necessary.THE WAIT:
...was pretty silly. I was quoted "2 or 3 weeks" and they took 17.5 weeks. Oh, how I wish Eric had estimated something like "4 to 6 months." I still would have ordered them, and then I would have forgotten about them until they came. Instead I worried a lot, and every couple weeks when I'd call and he'd tell me "just a few more days," my worrying would increase. Paradoxically, I grew to really like Eric during this process. I identified with his self-destructive mix of perfectionism and optimism. I believed (and continue to believe) that he
really believed my speakers would be done "in the next few days" every time he said it. That's why I never cancelled my order, and I'm glad I didn't.
Eric is certainly a master craftsman and probably a genius. If I were in his shoes, I would hand over some of the business end of what he does to someone, even just a business student from the local college or whatever. This flunky could stop by for an hour a day and reply to customer emails, send updates, and return customer calls. If a customer has a technical or design question, the flunky could then escalate those calls to Eric. It's my opinion that Eric's passion, optimism and perfectionism make him uniquely un
qualified to deal with impatient customers and give sensible time estimates. Basically, I think he's one flunky away from having a perfect business.BOTTOM LINE:
The speakers are exactly what I wanted. They exceeded my very high expectations.
