Summit Semiconductor Introduces the First WiSA Compliant Amplifiers for Wireless Home Theater...

Summit Semiconductor a leader in advanced wireless audio technologies and an advisory board member of the Wireless Speaker and Audio (WiSA™) Association, announces the availability of five new amplifier reference designs for speaker manufacture integration. The new amplifiers are compliant with the current version of the WiSA Compliance Test Specification (CTS). The CTS outlines an interoperability testing and certification program aimed at products that offer wireless, interference-free, uncompressed high definition audio by taking advantage of the unique 5GHz Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure (U-NII) frequency band.

Class D Amplifier Features:

Integrated SMPS, supporting 100, 240VAC, 50/60Hz
Power availability (2x15W, 2x50W, 1x29W, 1X100W, 1x200 subwoofer), configurable via jumpers
Integrated ultrasonic circuitry for surround speakers (MyZone support)
Status LEDs - system heartbeat, network link, amp error
Designed to meet UL safety specifications
Designed to pass FCC part 15 emissions requirements
Designed to pass DFS requirements when used with Summit receiver module

So now instead of wiring just speaker wire to each speaker in the room, we are going to be needing to plug each speaker to power outlet. Like I do my 5-yrs old Logitech 5.1 surround speaker system that does wireless on surround speakers. WiSA compliance for active speakers is a nice touch though if it gets indeed popularized among "major players" on A/V Receiver's market. Until then it is just an "add-on" cost to speaker design. cool.gif

Active speakers are the way to go. It will also allow whole house audio without needing all the lv wires going to a central location. Modern homes have ample access to power, you could add surround sound to any room without running wires.
I think it's cool.

I don't know what technology is not moving faster with speakers and AVRs like other devices or services out there, anyway, the idea is very great, and i'm suffering at this moment trying to remove the wires between the AVR and speakers frown.gif
