With that said, a good buddy of mine (351Carlo above) is selling a mint JVC RS45 projector. I (mistakenly) demoed this bad boy last weekend and now I've got the itch to change something. Damnit. I've simply went too far with spending on this hobby so I'm going to have to pass in fear of losing a testicle or two. I know he's always looking for interesting trades as well for similar gear, sexual favors, WOMD, etc. biggrin.gif

Thanks dude!

If someone was really interested in checking it out at the meet, I'd be glad to work out a deal to save the shipping hassle. Otherwise I may get tempted to put it in another room!

Hope to hear some good setups... I'm sure you won't disappoint.

I've actually downloaded a copy a few months back, but the low bit version I was able to get ahold of turned out to be atrocious. It's a very long piece of material, and I'm not sure what 45 seconds would be the best for our application, but I truly believe that this would be stellar to show the "dynamics" of each contender. Some people may have a different definition of dynamics. I am referring to dynamics in the context of level changing. Does that make sense? There are some very subtle (quiet) moments in the track followed by some very pronounced (loud) moments.

I found the Burmester Demo CD mentioned in RMK's post on EBay and had a laugh.

Has anyone heard this material in it's full (lossless) glory?

Not lossless, but Spotify has 'Master of Chinese Percussion - Poem of Chinese Drum' on their server, at 320kbs.

And yes, I have heard it lossless. The Burmester disc is really about the last two songs ('Stimula' and the Chinese Drums).

I <3 Spotify. I listened this this track today several times on a few different setups in my house. Some really fantastic dynamics in that clip, sounds amazing on my Sentinels even with the subs off. The 320kb/s files sound great to my ears at least.

I am fine, feeling a bit under the weather this past weekend, but better to get that out of the way and not be sick weekend of.

I will try to have a mix of all the clips up sometime this week or next for us all to listen at home before the event.

Any chance of non-attendees getting in on that clip down load?

I'd like to play along at home ... smile.gif

It will be a download link, as per usual. But the specific cut might change day of.

That's my review from here at AVS in the JTR Speaker thread. wink.gif I had someone PM me yesterday about the Noesis vs LS-6 from AudioCircle. It think it is the 5th person that has PM'd me about both speakers. In a few weeks there should be more feedback.

I bought The Master Of Chinese Percussion on Amazon. We will probably be listening to it at the Iowa Audio GTG on April 27. I think around the 5 minute mark is about 45 seconds of extremely powerful bass. I'll try to check tonight.

Hi Andrew, i remember sending you a pm in january or early february about putting my name for beer/liquor when there was an open slot for that category;) no worries i will contribute to dinner fund. I am really looking forward to listen SEOS based DIY designs some of you guys have built along with JTR Noesis and Seaton Cat 8Cs.

Anyone looking to share a ride from northern NJ, pls PM me.

See you guys shortly.

Everyone -- well, except for you Andrew smile.gif -- please send me a PM with a definitive confirmation or cancellation. I want to be sure the attendee's list is solid, and know whether or not I need to start contacting other folks on the alternates list.

Jim - heard from Mcallister and he is also unable to attend. Next?

Oh, and I suppose you can consider me confirmed. biggrin.gif

Awesome man... Thanks for the heads up.

Let us know what part you would recommend from the track. Since this isn't a sub GTG I think it would be better for us to focus on the more dynamic parts vs bass heavy parts "per se." I think I read in more detail on Noesis review that even the HQ track had some noise on the quiter scenes... That kinda sucks, but I still think it is going to be an excellent content addition regardless.

Dammit! I was really looking forward to checking out his line arrays. That really sucks. On the flip side, it was probably going to be the biggest pain in the rear to setup properly, so I guess it's for the best in the grand scheme of things.

Sorry I wasn't able to holler back at you tonight man... Had to entertain the family then I broke away to finalize my other boxes in anticipation of the Clone and miniDSP arriving tomorrow.

biggrin.gif

I'll give you a shout tomorrow for sure.

Yeah, Erich's recommendation for his size room was 3 x Pure's up front and fusion-8's in the back. He said with the money he saved he bought a second 15" Ultimax, LOL. Tha'ts good thinking. biggrin.gif

more subs
always a good idea
.....this is not what you all want to hear, but I just got handed my work schedual for the next few weeks. Seems they want me in Georgia.... I will be asking to postpone the work trip and get that Friday off now. Will let you all know updates as I hear them.

As an aside, I will make the mix and transfer it to someone else to run if I am not able to make it.
Sibuna, what Andrew failed to mention is I need a lot of sound. My thoughts are to build the smaller setup and then hear yours so I can decide which I'll keep in my PJ room.

I'm going to throw together a selector switch so we can test a few in a blind study. I'll make it a wireless control.

Glad Sibuna reminded me regarding speaker stands.

The built in corners/shelves of my room sit about 12" high as they are. I have some pedestals I built for my Sentinels that are 7" high by 17.5" wide x 15" deep that anyone can use if they would like. I also have some rigged 4x4 based stands that we used in October that are about 25" high.

If you need a specific stand for your setup, please bring it with you! We can always make a target/home depot run if needed as well.
i sent you a PM about it as well, TBH i think the stools + the riser will pretty much take care of everything thats not floor standing. JTR T12s and Cat12s (if they come) would need something shorter which you have already

only things that would really need to be placed higher are the Fusion 8s and maybe the 10s

Stools would be nearly the same height as these stands, but IMO more sturdy

Thanks, PM'd you back. I ran the SHO-10's on those stands (same height roughly as the stools) and they worked out well. I think even the 10s and 8s should be good. cool.gif

I would recommend 5:30-6:15 (and to 6:35 if possible) and 7:30-8:15 (and to 8:30 if possible) for time stamps for Poem of Chinese Drum. The first one has more dynamics while the second one had blazing fast percussion hits.
i concur on those times as i just listened to them. very nice

id let the first cut go to 6:40 and the 2nd one to 8:35
