Would you accept dead pixels on a new set?

Had to exchange my 4th new set today within a two month period due to dead pixels. Two were plasmas and the last two were LED. Have another set scheduled for delivery on Saturday.

I have to be honest but I am utterly shocked at how many folks told me that they don't check nor care about dead pixels on their new sets. To me, I view dead pixels just like any other manufacture defect such as clouding, banding, excessive buzzing, etc. My view point is I need to check to make sure there are no defects period with the set while I am still within the exchange period for the given store you purchased from. I do understand those who say ignorance is bliss, but if 4 months down the road I suddenly notice a dead pixel, it is going to annoy me to the point of distraction.

So.... I am just curious as to how many:

1 - Check for dead pixels when they get new a new panel.
2 - Care if their new panel has dead pixels or not.
3 - Actually exchange panels if theirs did have dead pixels.

1) Yes.
2) Yes.
3) Not yet. I've been luckier than you. I have 4 flat panels, including one plasma, all still okay.

Too bad about the hassle you're going through.

I would never accept a new panel with dead pixels.

Four sets in two months is pretty crazy. Did you stick with the same manufacturer, or did you switch after two or three tries?

First two were Panasonic 65VT50s, these past two were Samsung 65ES8000.

3. On my third set in one month now because of dead/stuck pixels.

3. Had a Samsung Plasma exchanged twice due to a variety of other issues. Dead pixels were just the icing on the cake.

I made the switch to Panasonic and haven't had any yet. *knock on wood*

Dead pixels are horrible. Once you see them, you can never un-see them. Your eyes will always default to these dead pixels.

1-No, never deliberately looked as in put up a solid white slide and went over the screen with a magnifying glass.

2-Yes, would care if I saw any and would return for that reason.

3-No, never saw any.

Mmm..

Just bought a new Sony KDL50EX645..

First set had no dead pixel but flashlighting everywhere!!

Second set is perfect, but has one dead pixel.

I can only see it when i'm up to 5-6 feet. Also, it's botton right.

I will keep it, i think chances or that i risk running in more problems if I exchange for that...

Also got a nice deal at 890$

Yes, I would look for them.

Yes, I would care about them.

Yes, I would return a set, but probably only if it had more than 2 dead pixels. Or if for some reason, they were very noticeable. But sitting 8' away and if I didn't notice them and if I was otherwise satisfied with the set, then no, I would not return it.

The sets are never perfect. You always have to accept some shortcomings. We compromise by accepting less than perfect contrast, less than perfect motion, if you don't get it professionally calibrated, then less than perfect colors. If I had a set with which I was satisfied with the uniformity, a lack of flashlighting, no particular clouding issue, but it had a couple of dead pixels which I don't notice from my viewing position unless I strain to see them, then I'm keeping it.
