Some kind of dedicated amp for multiple zones - Airport Express setup

"Some kind of dedicated amp for multiple zones" is what I think I'm looking for. We just finished a reno and i now have 3 rooms with ceiling speakers. What I want to achieve is using iPhones to send Airplay audio to them, but of course that means they are all amplified and "available" all the time.

So I need an amp with at least 3 zones that are all available all the time. Meaning no need to "switch" zones. Alternatively I suppose I need a small amp for every room.

I'm no audiophile. So a little help here would be good.

If that's all you're powering then you could get a networking 7.1 AVR (eg. Denon AVR-1913) and set it to Mult CH Stereo with the 3 sets of stereo speaker pairs connected to each set of speaker posts on the AVR.

As it happens I have an extra 5.1 AVR that does multichannel. So it could manage two pairs of speakers? But can each pair then have a separate source, such as two Airport Express'?

Id like a solution where each pair has an independent source.

Ah, no you didn't state that requirement in post #1. That being the case, you would either need a true 3 zone AVR, or simply placing an Airport Express with an amp in every room. It would also help to list your max budget for this project. If you don't plan on a 5.1 setup in the main zone, but rather simply stereo music to each of the 3 zones, you may want to consider the Denon DRA-397 in one room with a 2Ch amp in each of the other rooms (connected to the Zones 2/3 pre-outs on the 397 if you want to pass other connected sources besides the AEX audio to Zones 2 and 3) with an Airport Express connected to each of the 3 amps if you want 3 different Airplay sources to each room.
