Bunch of Questions - Pioneer VSX-01THX

Thread Starter
I have a Pioneer VSX-01THX, and wanted to ask a few questions about it since I can't seem to find answers to them.

First, is there an output on here that I can plug composite sound (red/white) --> composite sound (red/white) to capture from my capture card? It only captures composite and s-video. I can get the video from the monitor-out, but I can't seem to find a way to get the audio.

Second, if I have something with HDCP plugged into the receiver, does the receiver output HDCP, or does it decode it so the protection is removed? I need to know since I want to capture PS3 gameplay, and it's protected by HDCP, which the capture card I want can't decode.

Lastly, is it possible to change which sound inputs a designated input on the receiver uses? As in, can I get it to use an optical sound cable even though I'm using a composite input?

Thanks!

Welcome to AVS.

Your references to composite sound input (red & white) plugs. . . I think you mean analog inputs. . .

1: Yes, the receiver has analog outputs (manual page #20)
2. HDCP in - HDCP out (as far as I know)
3. Yes, the receiver has assignable digital inputs

I hope this helps

Thanks for the welcome, and for the answers!

But for my first question, doesn't that only output the sound from that specific input, as in, the analog needs to be plugged into the CD-in? I need something like the monitor-out, where EVERYTHING is outputted from one output instead of just a single input-output.

EDIT: An unrelated question, is there a way I can capture audio from a digital optical spdif cable? Since the receiver has an HDMI and optical outputs, I want to have a capture card capture the HDMI, and something else capture sound out of the optical-out, since I'm assuming the HDMI-out doesn't output audio on the receiver. Correct me if it does, though!

1) Again, read pages 19 - 20 of your manual, you have optical, coax, analog, & HDMI outputs to play with. You may need to enter set-up and direct your audio path(s) as needed. I am not trying to be vague here but I have never owned this product, my only knowledge of his product is from downloading and reading the manual. I am glad to help you out though. . .

2) HDMI has the capability to carry both audio & video (new high def codecs), coax & toslink can not support the new HD audio codecs that HDMI will support & is audio only, no video.

Kind of quick, but hopefully this helps.
